Our Toddler Cloth Diaper Stash

My toddler in a cloth diaper
It's been so long since I've updated on here about how cloth diapering is going for us, but I finally got a chance to look at everything and put a little video together for you.  Linc is now 2 years old (2 years and 3 months to be exact), and nowhere near potty training.  His cute little potty just sits there in the corner feeling lonely and rejected, but alas, anytime I even bring up sitting on his potty for even a second, Linc turns up his nose and walks the other way.  No way mom!  That's what my hip looking diapers are for.  Point well taken little man.  You win.

I'm sure you all remember that my stash has not been on the small size.  When it came to testing diapers, I was gaga for the latest new craze or the newest mommy made diaper.  I just had to see if it was the ultimate diaper.  Lining up all of my Linc's diapers in the past took up our entire King sized bed.  OMG!  Yes, I had a little problem.  Haha!  I'm proud to say that I've gotten my addiction under control though.  A few Diaper Addicts Anonymous meetings, shaking hands as diaper ads skimmed across my e-mail inbox, and a few cancelled credit cards later, and I'm down to a manageable 14 diapers in my main stash, and 9 diapers in my backup stash.

So what do I mean by main stash and backup stash?  Well I have to admit that there are days when I'm just not on top of my diaper laundry like I should be, so the backup stash is for those days that I forget to do laundry and my main stash has run out.  Boo!  I hate when that happens, but alas, it happens now and then.  So here's what's in my stash.  You might be amazed (at least I know I am), that I have pretty much settled on one brand (and if I could, one style).  I always said that one diaper brand was just too boring, but I love these so much that I just don't care, and I'm not bored at all.  Although I'm sure Linc would be happier if there was a Mickey Mouse, Hulk, or Spongebob design in the mix.  Sorry Linc!

Cloth Diapering 101 - Pocket Diapers

Pocket diapers take a little more work than an All In One diaper, but once they are stuffed then they act just like an All In One and are very easy to use. Although pocket diapers vary between manufacturers, all pocket diapers have three things in common. The first is a waterproof or water-resistant exterior (or hidden layer under a decorative fabric) consisting typically of PUL or TPU. The second requirement for an pocket diaper is an interior lining with a pocket that allows you to stuff the inside of the diaper with absorbent layers. Depending on the manufacturer, pockets can be located in the front, back, or middle of the diaper. The third requirement is an absorbent insert of some sort. Inserts come in all types of shapes, sizes, and materials. Some pocket diapers are not sold with the inserts included so you have to read the fine print before purchasing. If inserts are not included you will need to purchase them separately. Listed below are some of the pros and cons of pocket diapers as well as some examples of pocket diapers. These are by no means all the options available. They are just a few that I have tried or are popular in the cloth diapering community.

**Please note that pros and cons are typical but by no means an absolute.  Some pocket diapers do not fit into the typical mold.

Pros

You can easily customize the absorbency of the diaper

Easier to clean since the outer cover is separate from the absorbent inserts

Fast drying since the outer cover is separate from the absorbent inserts

Once stuffed they are super fast to put on just like a disposable or All In One diaper

Cons

Takes more time to stuff and remove inserts from each diaper

Removing inserts can be a messy task

Keeping track of unlabeled inserts takes skill.  I labeled all of mine.  See my tutorial on "How To Label Inserts".

BUNNZOO Diapers - One Size Pocket Diaper Review

Bunnzoo one-size pocket diaper
The first BUNNZOO diapers that I tried, I won off of another blog giveaway.  They were two of her pocket diapers.  I was super amazed by how well they fit and how easy they were to put on.  They were pretty cute too.  If you check out my most recent stash video that I did last summer then you'll see that although I'm veering away from pocket diapers, BUNNZOO pocket diapers are one of my favorites of the pocket diapers I still use.  Last month you might have seen my review of the BUNNZOO fitted diapers.  Now I'm excited to review their pocket diapers for you.  Check out what I have to say below.

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - For a pocket diaper I find these pretty easy to use.  The pocket is a good size and the inserts fit very well.  I also LOVE my two snap BUNNZOO diaper.  It's so fast to put on.  If you have multiple children of different sizes I'd go with the snap down rise, but if you don't have to worry about changing the rise then I like the clean look of the button hole elastic.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love the fit of this diaper.  It fits awesome around the legs creating a secure yet comfortable seal.  The waist also fits very nicely.  Linc is on the last setting without using snap covers, but once he starts walking I anticipate that he will slim down a bit.  The legs don't get super small, but it looks like it would fit a 10-12 pound baby.  It's pretty typical for one-size diapers not to get super small or super big though, so I'm not surprised by this.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥ - These diapers work pretty well on leak protection.  It's not my nighttime solution diaper, but it works great during the day.  I use two inserts if I'm going out and about for quite awhile or just one insert if I'm at home or going on a quick outing.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - It's a pocket diaper, so you do have to stuff this diaper each time you wash it which can get tiring after awhile.  I do like that the covers dry super fast when I lay them out though and I don't have to worry about hook and loop closures sticking to everything in the wash.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This is about average pricing for a pocket diaper.  Being a one-size diaper you should get a lot of bang for your buck though.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - I find the quality and durability of these diapers to be pretty good.  I've only had a problem with one of her diapers where the seam came out, but she replaced it very quickly. All other diapers have had super nice seams, with a very consistent and clean look.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥ -  Being a work at home mom business, BUNNZOO has some very cute prints and variety.  They aren't my absolute favorite, but they're definitely not boring.

In Conclusion:
I really like the BUNNZOO pocket diapers and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a one-size pocket diaper in cute prints.  I personally am getting too busy to stuff pocket diapers, but I do love the BUNNZOO flat fold inserts that give me the option to lay them inside the diaper instead of stuffing the diaper.  I love having options!  My only complaint is that the website is a little confusing.  I'd love for the diapers to be labeled a bit better as an AIO, pocket, AI2, etc. and label what the diaper is made out of since they vary so much.

Top 15 Modern Cloth Diaper Must Haves

I've been meaning to write this post for awhile now, but when DiaperShops.com posted their "No Pins Required Pinterest Contest" it really pushed me into gear. I've been officially cloth diapering Lincoln for over four months now and have a pretty good idea of what I bought that helped, what didn't, and what I couldn't live without. Listed below are my top 15 must haves for cloth diapering. Stick to this list and I assure that you will be ready for any and all cloth diaper situations ... Adventures In Fluff style.

DiaperShops.com
#1 - Supportive Community - Why is a supportive community number 1?  Because you just can't do this alone.  I don't know how many times my cloth diaper support groups have helped me.  Too many times to count I would assume.  This was especially true in the beginning.  In the beginning I had nobody near me that knew about cloth or even supported my decision to cloth diaper.  Where do I start?  What do I do?  How do I fix this?  So many questions.  Who else are you going to run to when you get a new diaper in the mail and want to share your excitement?  Certainly not your next door neighbor that's going to think your pregnancy knocked one too many screws loose in your head.  So where do you find these communities?  Online forums like DiaperSwappers is great.  There are tons of Facebook groups.  If you have a local cloth diaper store then start there.  Maybe they have a group.  The Great Cloth Diaper Change is coming up April 21st.  You'll meet LOTS of cloth mamas there.  Whatever your source, you're going to need a group of parents that you can go to when it comes to The Good, The Bad, and The Poopy of cloth diapering.  My Faves: Fertility Friend "The Cloth Diaper Crew" (paid subscription), Facebook Group "Cloth Diaper Chat", & all the cloth diaper Facebook pages (I tend to frequent my favorite brands, stores, & blogs).

TIDE Ultra Detergent
#2 - Laundry Routine And Detergent - This was a VERY close second for me.  I almost put it as number 1.  I don't know how many people I've seen quit cloth diapering because they can't get a good laundry routine down.  This was one of the areas that I spent most of my time researching before Lincoln was born.  There's nothing more discouraging when you really want cloth diapering to work, but you keep getting leaks, stink, buildup, and stains.  This is a tricky one though because everyone's laundry routine and detergent that works for them is different.  It all depends on your water, your load size, the age of your child (pee concentration and poop type), the washer you have, and the types of diapers you have.  Do you have hard or soft water?  Do you have large or small loads of laundry?  Do you have a newborn or a toddler?  Do you have a top loader or a front loader washing machine?  Do you have mostly synthetic diapers or natural diapers?  It all comes into play when trying to come up with your laundry routine and detergent type.  I don't mean to scare you.  It's really not that bad.  Most routines are fairly similar in fact.  It's just a matter of tweaking it to fit your needs.  My Faves: My Cloth Diaper Wash Routine with Tide Ultra.

Bumgenius 3.0 All In One
#3 - Easy All-In-One Diapers - These diapers are perfect for dad, grandparents, and childcare facilities.  To tell you the truth I LOVE them for myself too.  They're just so easy and about as close to a disposable diaper as you can get.  Get these with hook and loop closures and you pretty much have a disposable diaper.  Sure they take longer to dry and you can't customize the absorbency as easy as a pocket diaper, but they are soooooo easy.  I just love them.  These are my out and about diaper.  If I have to run errands then you can bet an All-In-One diaper is what's in my diaper bag.  My Faves: Ragababe & BumGenius 3.0 AIO (discontinued)

SoftBums Echo AI2 Diaper
#4 - Economical All-In-Two Diapers - When I first started researching cloth diapers I totally did not understand the point of an All-In-Two diaper.  How could a little snap in insert contain everything?  How could you possibly re-use the diaper shell again?  Wouldn't that be gross?  Wouldn't it be soaked with pee or smeared with poop?  Ick!!!!  Then I tried a few.  OMG!  I love them!  I just love being able to take out a wet soaker (I just use my wipe to unsnap it and throw it in the laundry bag) and then snap in a new soaker for the next change.  It makes me feel so great that I get to use my super cute shells more than once.  If the shell is slightly damp then I let it dry and use it for the next diaper change.  If it gets poop on it (Linc doesn't poop as often as I thought he would), then I just throw it in the laundry.  Not only do I love that I can use my cute diapers more than once, but I'm saving money by doing so.  The shell is the most expensive part and if I get to use it 2, 3, or even 4 times, then I'm usually paying wayyyy less than any other diaper system (except prefolds and covers).  I also find that my All-In-Two systems are much trimmer fitting than most other diapers.  Great when you're trying to fit jeans over a diaper.  That said, I normally use my All-In-Two's at home so I have somewhere to hang my diaper shell up in between changes.  I also use these for long distance travel since they take up the least amount of space in my luggage.  My Faves: Ragababe Two Steps, SoftBums Echo, & Grovia Shells.

Tiny Tush Elite Pocket Diaper
#5 - Night Time Diaper Solution - When your baby starts sleeping through the night ... or more than a two hour stretch, you're going to need a night time diaper solution.  Now that solution is different for everyone.  It depends on several factors.  Is your baby a heavy wetter?  Is your baby sensitive to wetness?  Does your baby sleep on their back, tummy, or side?  Linc is easy.  He sleeps on his back, he's not a heavy wetter, and he's not sensitive to wetness.  We can do almost anything.  That said, Linc does go 12 hours without a diaper change at night so we do need a solution that can hold a lot of liquid just in case.  Some parents use fitted diapers with PUL or wool.  Some parents use pocket diapers with lots of inserts.  There are many other options as well.  I myself am a pocket with inserts type of girl.  My Faves: Tiny Tush Elite or Kawaii Heavy Duty, paired with a Thirsties Hemp Insert

Hefty Pail & Planet Wise Liner
#6 - Dirty Diaper Storage Solution - You're going to need somewhere to put all your stinky diapers until laundry day.  There are lots of options out there, but I've found that it's best to take the following into consideration.  A diaper pail with airflow keeps stink away better than a diaper pail that is tightly closed.  I also find that a plastic container is best, just in case your pail liner springs a leak.  Once in awhile I like to set that bad boy outside and let it air out with the fresh clean air.  Using a pail liner will help to keep your pail clean and avoid having to wash it every other day.  I own two so that while one liner is in the wash, the other goes into my pail.  Another option is to use a large hanging wet bag.  This is a great option if you just don't have the space for a diaper pail or if you move your diaper changing station from one area to another depending on what time of the day it is.  My Faves: (2) Planet Wise Pail Liners and Hefty 13.3 Pivot Lid Wastebasket

Home Made Cloth Wipes
#7 - Cloth Wipes - I can't say enough good things about cloth wipes.  I LOVE them!  Gone are the days where it took 10 wipes to clean up a poopy mess.  I use at the most 2 cloth wipes for each diaper change and 90% of the time I only need one.  I have about 50 cloth wipes on hand, but you could easily get away with about 35.  My Faves: Ragababe & My own home made cloth wipes made with terrycloth and flannel (tutorial here)

Mommy Loves Maddy Cover

#8 - Newborn Diapers - Some debate on whether newborn diapers are necessary or not.  Some go with prefolds and covers till their baby can fit in one-size diapers.  Some just go with disposables.  Not me!  There's something about newborn diapers that just makes your eggs drop in hopes of another newborn to put them on.  Newborn diapers are just toooooo cute to pass up.  Not only are they too cute, but they have a great resale value so you usually get a lot of your money back on them.  Not in the mood to buy newborn diapers and deal with selling them?  Try renting them instead.  I almost did.  My Faves: Kissaluvs Cotton Fleece Fitted Diapers (Size: 0) with a Thirsties Duo Wrap (Size: 1).  See more of my favorite newborn diapers HERE.

KAEL&KAED Wet Bag
#9 - Wet Bags - You're on the go and you've got to change a diaper.  What do you do?  Yes, you could throw it in your diaper bag and hope it doesn't leak (yes, I've done this before).  You could leave it on the floor of your car till you get home (can someone say hot stink box? ... ummm no thank you!).  You could just leave the diaper on the baby and let them marinate in their own sloshy mess (hmmmm ... not a bad idea.  Ok, I'm not that mean).  What you do is get a wet bag.  Wet bags are waterproof bags that zip up and hold your wet stinky diapers till you get home or it's time to wash them.  They come in several sizes and I recommend you get a couple sizes.  I have a couple small ones (they'll hold about one or two diapers), and a couple medium ones (they'll hold about 6-8 diapers).  The small ones are great for really quick trips out of the house.  The medium ones are great for all day trips out of the house.  The large ones are great for overnight trips (I still need to get one of those).  The best part?  When you're done with cloth diapering these can be used for pool or beach bags to hold your wet swim suits.  My Faves: Planet Wise & KAEL&KAED

CJ's Butter
#10 - Diaper Rash Cream - Now one of the reasons that I decided to cloth diaper Lincoln was because I heard that babies got less diaper rash when cloth diapered due to the diaper being more breathable and less chemicals being used.  For us that has been pretty much true, but we do still get the occasional diaper rash.  When using cloth diapers you can't use the typical diaper rash creams that you would use with disposable diapers.  They would leave a buildup on your diapers that would cause your diapers to repel and leak.  You need to use a diaper rash cream that is labeled to be cloth diaper friendly.  My Faves: CJ's Butter & Mum Mum Crafts Baby Booty Balm

Blueberry Pocket Diaper & Ragababe Doublers
#11 - Diaper Doublers - A diaper doubler is basically anything that you can use to boost up the absorbency of your cloth diapers.  There are many reasons why you might want to increase the absorbency.  You'll probably need a doubler at night since your baby will be in the diaper for a long time.  You'll probably want a doubler for long car rides since your baby will be pressing on their diaper in a seat.  You'll probably want a doubler for a heavy wetter baby.  There are many options out there to choose from.  You can use hemp, cotton, bamboo, microfiber, prefolds, etc.  My Faves:  Thirsties Hemp Inserts , Ragababe Doublers & Inserts & BabyKicks Joey Bunz

Sigma Diaper Sprayer
#12 - Diaper Sprayer - I haven't used my diaper sprayer yet, but you can bet that it was at the top of my list to buy one for later on down the road.  We're actually only about a month or two away from breaking that bad boy out.  So what's a diaper sprayer you ask?  Oh well let me tell you it's a super fun device that you hook up to your toilet plumbing to spray your @$$ with after you take a dump.  Haha!  Ok, that's what my husband thinks it's for.  Actually it is a device that you use to spray the poop from your diapers onto you, your toilet, and the walls of your bathroom (if you're not diaper sprayer skilled).  That said, I plan to conquer the diaper sprayer technique so that I can avoid having to swish Linc's diapers in the toilet... and clean my walls  The point of the diaper sprayer is to get as much poop off the diapers before you throw them in the wash.  You don't need to do this with breastfed poo since it's water soluble (thus I have not broke my diaper sprayer out yet), but as soon as babies start solids or formula then you're going to need to break that bad boy out.  I'll be practicing with a clean diaper at first.  My Fave: Sigma Diaper Sprayer

Ju Ju Be . BFF Diaper Bag
#13 - Diaper Bag - Now here's an area where I splurged.  I knew this item was going to be with me everyday and a part of my cool mommy wardrobe for the next 2-3 years (nothing says cool like a big teddy bear on the side of your diaper bag).  I knew I needed something big enough to carry all of Lincoln's stuff as well as my stuff (this would be my new purse), plus some little things for the girls such as snacks.  I also knew that I wanted a backpack.  I just think that backpacks are super easy to carry around while trying to manage two kids and a baby at the same time.  My Fave: Ju-Ju-Be  B.F.F.

Ragababe Easy All In One Diaper
#14 - Super Cute Diapers - You might say "What??? Why do I need cute diapers???". Ok, all cloth diapers are cute, but I'm talking super cute. Those diapers that just make you squee with delight and bust your budget trying to collect them all. Now you don't have to bust your budget to get super cute diapers. Just get at least one or two. So what's the point you ask? The point is to make other parents swoon and other babies wish they had back like your baby does. I find this really helps when all your friends and family can't understand your cloth obsession and swear you're going to quit one day. Oh yes! When they see that cute fluffy bum they will secretly wish they had picked cloth too.  My Faves: Ragababe (I also have a Doodle Dypes on the way and Chelory on my purchase radar)

Smart Snugs Diaper & My Little Legs
#15 - Leg Warmers - I know technically leg warmers are not a cloth diaper accessory, but oh how they make cloth diapering easier.  Don't be deceived by the name and have visions of Flashdance in your head (Oh memories!  I should watch that movie again).  They're basically really long socks with no feet that cover the entire leg.  Ok... they're leg warmers, but I try not to call them that around my husband since Linc is a boy.  I love that I can leave them on during diaper changes and I don't have to worry about pulling pants over his fluffy bum.  Plus they come in so many cute prints and I can show off Linc's cute diapers since they're not covered up with pants.  At the same time his legs are warm and protected while crawling.  My Faves: My Little Legs & Making my own (tutorial here)

So there you have it!  Those are my Top 15 Cloth Diaper Must Haves.  Not sure what I would do without them.  I definitely wouldn't be having as much fun as I am right now.  I definitely had a lot of fun creating this list.  Thanks DiaperShops.com for hosting such a great contest.  Here's a link to my Official Adventures In Fluff  "No Pins Required" Contest Entry.  I'd LOVE to see all your entries too!!!  Feel free to post a link to your No Pins Required contest entry below so we can all get some great ideas of new products to try.

SoftBums Echo vs Omni (now with snaps too!) Review

When I first started my cloth diapering research a year ago I did not understand the point of an All-In-Two diaper system. I didn't understand how those little inserts were going to contain anything. How could I possibly use the shell more than one time???? Wouldn't it be gross? Also during my research I came across SoftBums cloth diapers. They had two versions; the Echo and the Omni. The Echo was an All-In-Two system and the Omni was a combo of an All-In-Two / Pocket Diaper. Both had great reviews and both were super cute, but ack! I still wasn't sure about the All-In-Two system. Being the diaper testing girl that I am I decided I would try out the SoftBums Omni. I figured if I hated the All-In-Two feature then at least I had a pocket diaper. Then SoftBums launched their new prints. Man! They were all so cute! Ok, I couldn't resist and I got both an Echo and an Omni. If they flop I just sell them right? Fast forward 6 months. I've been using my SoftBums for 4 months now and I LOVE them!!!! Who would have known I'd love them so much? I love these diapers so much that I was super excited when they came out with the snap versions and even more excited when they asked if I would review one. I ended up choosing to review the Echo snap diaper instead of the Omni (I know! Who would have thunk it??? I chose the All-In-Two!). Check out below to see what I thought of both the Echo and the Omni, as well as what I thought about the new snap version. You might be just as surprised as I was.

SoftBums Diaper Features:
  • Style - (Echo = All In Two) / (Omni = All In Two and Pocket)
  • Size - One Size 6-35 lbs (unique Slide2Size toggle system fits legs 4" - 14")
  • Closure - Hook and Loop or Snaps (limited colors)
  • Exterior - PUL in several different prints and colors. (New Limited Edition Color Each Month in 2012)
  • Interior - Micro Fleece
  • Inserts - Inserts are NOT included.  Customize your diaper with the following insert options: Super DryTouch Pod, DryTouch Pod, DryTouch Mini Pod, Organic Bamboo Pod, Organic Bamboo Mini Pod.
  • Made In The USA

Pod Options

SoftBums Echo w/Hook & Loop Closure - $21.95 / 6-35 lbs (Overall Rating: ♥♥♥♥)

4 mos - 10.5 lbs
Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is super easy to use!  I really like the toggle system for size adjustments.  Once you get the fit correct you don't have to worry about it for a few weeks or even months till your baby grows.  I really like that I can make the adjustments while I have the diaper on Linc.  It makes the fitting process much faster.  I also really like the hook and loop closure.  It's so fast and easy!  The pods are pretty fast to put on as well.  The DryTouch pod is the easiest to put on, but once I got the hang of flipping the larger pods down then those became really fast too.  Although I find these easy, I do find that my husband needs a bit of help.  Since the pod does shift I have to remind him that none of the insert can be hanging out of the diaper legs or back.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I can get an amazing fit with this diaper.  The hook and loop closure gives me a perfect fit every time on the waist and the toggle system gives me a perfect fit on the legs.  I can adjust them the tiniest fraction of an inch.  I could even get a super great fit right after Linc was born.  These diapers get pretty small (by small I mean Linc was a little over 8 lbs).  I also LOVE the trim fit of this diaper.  That has to be my favorite part along with the toggle.  I love how skinny they are between the legs so that Linc's legs can actually come together unlike a lot of other diapers he has.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥ - These diapers have been pretty good as far as leak protection.  During the day I use either a DryTouch Pod or an Organic Bamboo Pod.  At night I add one of the Mini Pods to the main pod and have no leaks.  I did have leaks when I used them in the newborn phase, but that might be because I was only using the Organic Bamboo Mini Pod, and not the DryTouch Mini Pod.  I also noticed that if Linc made an extreme poop I could see the poop color coming through the leg seam holes.  It was not enough to get on clothing, but enough to show yellow coloring.  I'm not sure if all three of my SoftBums do this and I just don't notice because the other two are darker colors, or if this particular diaper is just defective.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ - For the most part the wash routine is very easy.  The shells wash up very nicely and are very fast to dry on my drying rack.  The pods wash up well and dry fast in the dryer.  My only complaint is that the laundry tabs are not reliable.  I have no problem when I fold the wings back and attach them to each other though.  Watch my video to see how to do this.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I think this diaper system is a great deal.  Not only is it a One Size system that actually fits a newborn, but it's also an All In Two system so you can actually get on average three uses out of each diaper.  If you buy the Echo DryTouch 3 Pack that comes out to roughly $12 per diaper change.  Great deal!!!

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - Overall I feel like the quality and durability of this diaper is good.  It still looks in great condition after 4 months of use.  The only downfalls are the hook and loop closure and some of the prints.  It seems like the hook and loop closure is slightly less strong than it was when I first got it.  The  bacon and eggs print is also fading a bit.  The other two diapers still look great.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥ - I really like the look of this diaper.  I love the bright fun colors and I love the prints they come out with periodically.  I wish they carried more prints all the time though.  I'm a prints type of girl.  I really like the the new promotion they are doing this year with the Calendar Bums though.  How fun to have a limited edition color come out each month.  I'm a sucker for limited edition.
Lincoln @ 4 mos & 17.5 lbs

SoftBums Echo w/Snap Closure - $21.95 / 6-35 lbs (Overall Rating: ♥♥♥♥)
**Refer to the SoftBums Echo Hook and Loop review for all categories below.  I've only noted differences specific to the snap version below**

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - The snap version is just as easy to use as the hook and loop version.  It does take me a bit longer to put the diaper on, but it's a lot faster to take off.  I don't have to worry about flipping the wings around and sticking them together before throwing the diaper in my pail.  All I have to do is take off the diaper and throw it in my laundry pail.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥ - All aspects of the fit and adjustability of this diaper are the same as the hook and loop version except for the wing closure.  I knocked off one heart for the snap version because I don't feel I can get quite as customized of a fit with snaps.  Every once in awhile Linc is in between snaps so I have to decide if I want the waist to be just a little tight or a little loose.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥ - Same great leak protection as the Echo hook and loop version.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Same as the Echo hook and loop version except easier because it's snaps.  I don't have to worry about the hook and loop sticking to everything and I don't have to worry about picking lint out of the closures.  I just throw them in the wash, dry them, and then put them away.  So easy!

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Same great deal as the Echo hook and loop version.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Same great quality as the Echo hook and loop version only I don't have to worry about the hook and loop.  The snaps stay great looking forever!

The Look: ♥♥♥♥ - Same great look as the Echo hook and loop version.  I'm actually not partial to either the hook and loop version or the snap version.  I like the look of them both.
Lincoln @ 4 mos & 17.5 lbs

SoftBums Omni (ratings based on H&L) - $21.95 / 6-40 lbs (Overall Rating: ♥♥♥♥)
**Refer to the SoftBums Echo Hook & Loop version for the basic performance review.  Refer to the SoftBums Echo Snaps version for the snaps review.  I've only noted the differences specific to the Omni version below**

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - Same great toggle system as the Echo.  Same great options with snap or hook and loop closures.  Same great snap in pods.  The only difference between the Echo and the Omni as far as ease of use is the pocket on the Omni.  The pocket is optional to use since you can just use it as an All In Two system if you wish.  If you do decide to use the pocket then there is the extra effort of stuffing and un-stuffing, but I find this pocket very easy to stuff and un-stuff since it is so large

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥ - Same great adjustability as the Echo.  See above for how the snap version and hook and loop versions differ above.  The only difference is the fit of the diaper.  The Omni diaper is a lot larger between the legs than the Echo version so it fits a little bulkier than the Echo version.  Because of this the diaper also fits babies that are larger better than the Echo version.  It actually fits babies up to 40 pounds vs 35 pounds for the Echo version.  I personally prefer the trim fit of the Echo better, but I might change my tune when Linc gets bigger.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥ - Same great leak protection as the Echo version.  The only difference is now you have a pocket to work with.  I find this helpful when it comes to the difference between daytime and nighttime diapering.  During the day I use the snap in All In Two system so that I get to use the shell more often.  During the night I use a combo of the All In Two system and the pocket.  I stuff the pocket with a Mini Pod and snap a larger pod on top of the pocket.  Another way I've used these so that they are always ready to use is to just use the Echos for the day and the Omni at night.  That way I can have the pocket already stuffed and pod already snapped in to use ahead of time.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Same wash routine as the Echo with the same differences in the hook and loop version and the snap version.  The only difference is that you need to remember to un-stuff the pocket before washing and you have to stuff the pocket if you're using the diaper that way.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Same great deal as the SoftBums Echo, but with an extra added bonus.  You get both an AI2 and a Pocket all in one diaper!  That's an awesome deal!  Who doesn't love versatility???

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - Same as the Echo.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥ -  Same great look as the Echo only a little wider between the legs.  I personally prefer the trimmer look of the Echo, but I might change my tune when Linc gets bigger.
Lincoln @ 4 mos & 17.5 lbs
In Conclusion ...
If you couldn't tell already, I LOVE SoftBums ! ! !  The real kicker is that I almost didn't even try the Echo version because I didn't think I would like an All In Two system, but I actually like the Echo better.  It's just so easy to snap a pod in and go.  Not to mention (for the millionth time) that I love the trim fit of the Echo and that I can get several uses out of one diaper.  That's not to say that I don't like the Omni.  I love the Omni too, but if I had to choose one the Echo would win out.  I just can't get past that super trim fit.  So Awesome!  As far as the snap version and the hook and loop version I'm on the fence.  I really like both for different reasons.  I love that the snaps will stay nice looking for years to come and I don't have to worry about diaper chains, lint, or remembering to fasten the wings together before throwing them in the wash.  I love the hook and loop version because I can get a super custom fit around the waist and they're super fast to put on and take off.  I also like the look of the front of the diaper on the hook and loop version better.  So I'm up in the air on that one.  I think it might take me a bit longer to decide on that one, but so far I'm loving both snaps and hook and loop.So there you have it!  I'm a lover of SoftBums ! ! !

BabyKicks 3G Pocket Diaper Review

Bright colors and the promise of a trim fit are what brought the BabyKicks 3G Pocket Diaper to my attention.  Reviews on these diapers were mixed so I was hesitant to buy any at first, but when I saw them on Zulily I just couldn't pass up such a great deal and the chance to try out a new diaper.  When I got them in the mail I was so excited about the bright fresh colors, but at a loss as to how to use these diapers since they were so much different than all the other diapers I owned.  See below to find out more about these diapers and how they ended up working for us.

Diaper Features:
  • Style - Front loading pocket
  • Size - One size with special newborn fold
  • Closure - Side snaps (two on each side)
  • Exterior - PUL in 5 fun bright colors & 2 limited edition colors
  • Interior - Bamboo Fleece & Micro Fleece
  • Gussets - Fleece
  • Inserts - Comes with (1) one-size JoeyBunz hemp insert

BabyKicks 3G Pocket Diaper - $20.50 / 7-40 lbs (Overall Rating: ♥♥♥)

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - I do NOT have the talent for side snaps.  These take me forever to put on but with time I get better.  I know a lot of moms love side snaps, but I'm sorry to say that I'm side snap retarded.  I also find these diapers extremely hard to stuff because of the narrow pocket and the kink the snap down rise makes.  The inserts are also one-size so they are too big for the smallest setting and I have to fold them which makes the diaper bulkier.  You do of course have the option of just laying the insert on top of the lining without stuffing since it's not microfiber, but then I have to make sure that nothing is sticking out the sides of the diaper legs.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love the trim fit of this diaper!  I can actually put jeans on Lincoln with this diaper on. The leg fit is OK.  I don't get quite as great of a fit as some of my other diapers, but I haven't had any blow outs so it must be working just fine.  My main problem is with the one size inserts.  Folding them for smaller babies is an extra step and makes the diapers a bit bulkier.  I wish they came with two insert sizes, but I'm sure that would drive up the price.  I also wish I had known about the newborn fold so I could have tested it out.  It's a very interesting solution.  I'm not sure how well it would have worked since the wings are not snapping to the front of the diaper, but I can't say since I didn't try it.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Despite the awesomely absorbent insert that comes with this diaper, I still had leaks periodically.  I think it has to do with the fact that Lincoln is a boy, boys pee up front, and the flaps of a side snap diaper cover up the absorbent layers on the front of the diaper.  I found that the solution to this problem was to just lay the inserts on top of the liner instead of in the pocket.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Washing is ok.  I like that I don't have to worry about aplix and laundry tabs and I love that the pocket is in the front so I don't get my fingers poopy when removing the inserts.  They do take awhile to hang dry though and I have to throw them in the dryer for awhile after to fluff them up since the lining is bamboo and tends to get stiff when air dried.  The inserts also take quite awhile to dry in the dryer.  Not an obscene amount of time, but still quite awhile.  I also hate stuffing these after washing as I said above in "Ease Of Use".

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥ - The price is pretty good for a one-size diaper, especially when you take into consideration that the insert is almost a 1/3 of the price of the diaper.  These are great inserts!  This diaper gets pretty large too so it will definitely last through potty training.  I wish I had tried the newborn fold so I could say if this is a true one size diaper.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - I find the quality and durability of these diapers to be very good.  My only complaint is that the fleece leg gussets and bamboo lining seem more prone to lint build up and pilling.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love the bright bold colors and the nice trim fit.  I also like the flat smooth front.  I do not like the look of the fleece leg gussets.  It looks like I don't have the diaper on right.

In Conclusion ...
I love the look and fit of the BabyKicks 3G Pocket Diaper.  I just don't know if they're for us.  I'm just not great with the side snap feature and that's what's really killing it for me.  I'm going to keep using them for awhile before I decide for sure, but at the moment that's where I am.  I'm also questioning how well they work for a boy because of the flaps covering the front part of the soaker.  I would totally recommend that parents to girls test one out though.  They're really great for a nice trim fit when you want to put your baby in jeans.  As for the inserts I love them!  You have to get a BabyKicks JoeyBunz Insert to test out.  They're great and I use them overnight all the time.  Either way I plan on keeping these diapers around.  I think they're going to be an amazing potty training diaper.  I might just have to get more of these at that time.
