Giving Diapers, Giving Hope - It just feels good to give!

Last month I posted about the Smart Snugs "Cute Baby Contest for Charity".  Those who entered got the chance to win some awesome cloth diaper packages.  In addition the blog that the winner entered on would get to choose a cloth diaper charity to donate $1000 worth of cloth diapers to.  How awesome is that!  Well....  one of my readers won!!!  Amy Perez won 5 NatureSnug™ Bamboo Diapers, 1 Wet Bag, and 1 pack of Bio-Liners.  You go Amy!  Your son is just soooooo cute!  Now the hard part.  How could I choose one charity to donate all of these diapers to?  There are so many great causes out there.  My first instinct was to donate the diapers to our local Marjaree Mason Center.  They're a center offering support and shelter to victims of domestic violence in Fresno County.  Unfortunately they do not accept cloth diapers due to the size of the center and the limited laundry facility.  Darn!  I'll have to find another way to help them out.  That said I went with my second instinct which was to donate to those that know cloth diaper giving best and who would find great homes for all of these awesome diapers.  Yep, I'm donating the diapers to Giving Diapers Giving Hope.

Giving Diapers, Giving Hope is a non-profit organization founded by Kristen McCarthy, that provides education, support, and cloth diapers, to low income families in the continental United States.  She first started the organization after going through hard times herself.  After losing her job, breaking up with their child's father, losing her home, and having to move out of state to live with her parents, she was left with little to no extra money.  Luckily she cloth diapered and didn't have to worry about he extra costs incurred buying diapers each week, but this lead her to think about all the families that didn't cloth diaper, or could not afford to begin cloth diapering.  What did those families do?  It was during this time that she read an article about parents trying to save money by leaving their children in disposable diapers way longer than they should or even going to the extreme of washing used disposable diapers and re-using them.  What a sad, sad, thought that is.  With that in mind, Giving Diapers, Giving Hope was born.  With the help of cloth diaper, cloth diaper accessory, and monetary donations, Giving Diapers, Giving Hope is able to provide struggling families with the diapers and education needed to cloth diaper their children.  I think it's so amazing that although Kristen is still struggling, she is able to bring hope and happiness to other families, giving them one less thing to worry about both financially and health wise.

Giving Diapers, Giving Hope & Smart Snugs Diapers gave me hope as well.  I'm so excited to say that Smart Snugs will be donating 71 Simple Snug Diapers to Giving Diapers, Giving Hope.  It's such a good feeling to know that these diapers will be going to families in need and there will be more fluffy bums in this world!  If you too would like to donate to other families in need then please visit the Giving Diapers, Giving Hope website, or their Facebook page.  They accept all forms of cloth diapers (new and used), cloth diapering accessories, and financial donations.  Giving Diapers = Giving Hope!

Introducing My New Product Line ... Fluff N Stuff ! ! !

If you've been following my blog for awhile then you know that I LOVE a good craft project.  You can't keep me away from them.  Just ask my husband.  I'm sure he wishes that I would do less of them.  I can't help it though.  When the day is crazy and nothing seems to be going the right way, I love to wind down at the end of the day with a fun project.  Lately that's been a lot of sewing, but I've got some other fun projects coming up soon.

Pocket Burp Cloths & Washcloths Set - Superman News Lines
With all of these projects I've been doing I've had lots of requests from friends and family to make my creations for their babies or a gift they'd like to give.  In addition I can't tell you how many times I've had people ask when my Etsy shop will be opening up.  I'm so flattered that my designs have been received so well that others are excited to purchase them for themselves or a friend.  I've had a dream of opening an Etsy shop for awhile now, but did not think the timing was right with baby Lincoln on the way.  The more I thought about it though I kept thinking I really should just do it.  I don't have to jump in with both feet and go crazy with it.  I'll just post items as I finish them and hope that the world ... or at least a few people love them.

Pocket Burp Cloths & Washcloths Set - Punk Rock Love (Blue)
With that said I want to announce the exciting news that my Etsy shop is now open ! ! !  You can now purchase my designs under the appropriately named company Fluff N Stuff.  You all know I love fluff ... and other mommy stuff.  Currently I have my Pocket Burp Cloths and Washcloths/Wipes Bundles listed in various patterns, but you can expect more to show up on there soon.  I'd like to do some Deluxe Pocket Burp Cloths and Washcloths/Wipes Bundles with a softer and fluffier backing material.  Those will be coming soon.  I'll also be adding some Winged Prefolds as well as some Extended Tab Prefolds very soon.  Keep a look out for those!

I hope you are excited as I am about Fluff N Stuff making it's debut and I hope you'll direct all your friends and family there as well for all of their baby boutique needs.  Feel free to give me any feedback you have on Fluff N Stuff and it's products.  I'd love to know what you think about the patterns being offered, what you'd like to see sold in my shop in the future, and what you think about the pricing.  Any feedback would be much appreciated.  You can post here on my blog or send me an E-Mail with your comments.

Thanks for sticking with me on this awesome journey and I hope you join me again for another one of my Adventures In Fluff.

Changing Diapers - The Hip Mom's Guide to Modern Cloth Diapering

In early May I decided that I would be using cloth diapers on our newest addition.  Since then I've been scouring the internet for any bit of information I can find about cloth diapering I can get my hands on.  I've read the blogs, went through all the websites, and watched all the reviews on YouTube.  There is just a wealth of information on the internet.  I'm an old fashioned girl sometimes though and I love a good book.  One I can touch and make notes in.  I love something I can put on my bookshelf and refer to anytime I want to.  I also love that I can lend a book out to any of my friends that are also considering cloth diapering.  There's just something about a good book that makes me smile.

BlossomWith that said I was ecstatic when I saw that Kelly Wels was coming out with a book all about cloth diapering.  I'd seen other books on the internet, but they all seemed a bit outdated and just like technology, it seems like cloth diapering changes at the blink of an eye.  There's always a new company that just got discovered, or a company comes out with a new style.  Maybe there are new fabrics that are being used.  You just never know, so I'd like to get the latest and greatest advice from the newest source.

BlossomKelly Wels new book is titled Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom's Guide to Modern Cloth Diapering.  It's a 215 page book that claims to be the definitive guide to everything you need to know (and forgot to ask) about cloth diapering.  It's not out on the bookshelves yet, but it'll be out Sept/Oct of 2011.  I've already pre-ordered mine and can't wait for it to get here so I can read it and let you all know what I think.  Here is a sneak peak at what you will find in the book.

Fluff Obsession - The High Tech Way

In this age of technology it seems that everyone has the latest phone, the latest apps, and talks with people on the most popular social networking sites.  Cloth diaperers are definitely not the exception.  We aren't the hippi moms that you might think of.  I can't live without my iPhone or laptop, I'm addicted to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and of course I have to have the latest apps for my phone like Angry Birds, and ... Fluff Stash.

Yes, I said Fluff Stash.  It's the new iPhone app made just for us cloth diaperers that love their technology as well as their diapers and want to share that love with everyone in an organized, high tech way.  I downloaded the application just a couple days ago and I've already got my first diapers entered in and labeled so I never forget when I got them, what they are, or what they looked like if I decide to sell them in the future.

*Stash Library Page*
When you first open the application it will say that your stash is empty.  How sad is that?  Time to add your first diaper.  Click the little camera on the lower left side of the screen and snap a picture of your diaper.  I like to put mine on a white piece of paper so that the background doesn't distract from the diaper and all the pictures look uniform.  If your picture looks good then click "Use".  It'll now be in your library.

*Info/Properties Page*
The next thing to do is add some information to your picture.  Just click on the double arrow icon at the bottom of the screen.  This will bring up four options (Import, Share, Image Info, and Delete).  Click on "Image Info" then select your diaper photo.  This will bring up the information sheet.  Here you can record the color of the diaper, the size of the diaper, the brand of the diaper, and the type of diaper that it is.  You can also add a caption to your picture.  I like to re-write the details of the diaper here as well as where I bought the diaper and how much it cost (ex: Weehuggers/Cover/Snap/Size-1/Purchased-Fluff Envy $16.99).  Now click "Done".

*View of Single Entry*
Voila!  You have finished your first diaper entry and now you can start on the next one.  After you've finished entering your stash of diapers you can now start sharing your pictures with others.  Just click the double arrow icon at the bottom of the screen again and then click the "Share" button.  You can share via E-mail, Facebook, Twitter, or send the photo to your iPhone library.  Another thing you can do after you've entered all your stash is search your stash.  At the top of the main stash library screen that shows all your diapers is a search bar.  Just type in the color of the diaper, the size, the type, or the brand, and it will bring up all the diapers with that search word.  Lastly, if you need to delete one of your photo entries, you can do that by clicking on the double arrows at the bottom of the main screen, selecting "Delete", and then selecting the entries that you want to delete.

Although I love this application, there are some things that I would hope to see in future versions of this application.  First off, when entering colors into the info page, it would be nice if you could select multiple colors for a diaper and have the option to search each of these multiple colors.  Most of my diapers have more than one color on them.  Second, it would be nice if it had a pull down menu for where you purchased the diaper from, how much it cost, when you sold it, and how much you sold it for.  For now I just put all this information in my caption box which is ok.  Third, it would be great if instead of having to type in my selections in the search menu, it would just have an advanced search screen with pull down menus for each of the search options.  That way I wouldn't have to remember exactly how it was typed into the pull down screen and I could search multiple criteria at once.  Fourth, when I share my pictures via e-mail, Facebook, or Twitter, it would be nice if it included all the information with the picture.  As of now it just sends the picture.  I'm sure as time goes on Fluff Stash will make a lot of these changes, but until then I'm having a lot of fun entering in my stash and sharing it with others as it grows and grows.

Overall I would give this application 3 out of 4 Stars.  With a few improvements it could be a 4 star application.  Definitely worth the money you spend for it though and a great addition to my Adventures In Fluff ! ! !
