Giving Diapers, Giving Hope - It just feels good to give!

Last month I posted about the Smart Snugs "Cute Baby Contest for Charity".  Those who entered got the chance to win some awesome cloth diaper packages.  In addition the blog that the winner entered on would get to choose a cloth diaper charity to donate $1000 worth of cloth diapers to.  How awesome is that!  Well....  one of my readers won!!!  Amy Perez won 5 NatureSnug™ Bamboo Diapers, 1 Wet Bag, and 1 pack of Bio-Liners.  You go Amy!  Your son is just soooooo cute!  Now the hard part.  How could I choose one charity to donate all of these diapers to?  There are so many great causes out there.  My first instinct was to donate the diapers to our local Marjaree Mason Center.  They're a center offering support and shelter to victims of domestic violence in Fresno County.  Unfortunately they do not accept cloth diapers due to the size of the center and the limited laundry facility.  Darn!  I'll have to find another way to help them out.  That said I went with my second instinct which was to donate to those that know cloth diaper giving best and who would find great homes for all of these awesome diapers.  Yep, I'm donating the diapers to Giving Diapers Giving Hope.

Giving Diapers, Giving Hope is a non-profit organization founded by Kristen McCarthy, that provides education, support, and cloth diapers, to low income families in the continental United States.  She first started the organization after going through hard times herself.  After losing her job, breaking up with their child's father, losing her home, and having to move out of state to live with her parents, she was left with little to no extra money.  Luckily she cloth diapered and didn't have to worry about he extra costs incurred buying diapers each week, but this lead her to think about all the families that didn't cloth diaper, or could not afford to begin cloth diapering.  What did those families do?  It was during this time that she read an article about parents trying to save money by leaving their children in disposable diapers way longer than they should or even going to the extreme of washing used disposable diapers and re-using them.  What a sad, sad, thought that is.  With that in mind, Giving Diapers, Giving Hope was born.  With the help of cloth diaper, cloth diaper accessory, and monetary donations, Giving Diapers, Giving Hope is able to provide struggling families with the diapers and education needed to cloth diaper their children.  I think it's so amazing that although Kristen is still struggling, she is able to bring hope and happiness to other families, giving them one less thing to worry about both financially and health wise.

Giving Diapers, Giving Hope & Smart Snugs Diapers gave me hope as well.  I'm so excited to say that Smart Snugs will be donating 71 Simple Snug Diapers to Giving Diapers, Giving Hope.  It's such a good feeling to know that these diapers will be going to families in need and there will be more fluffy bums in this world!  If you too would like to donate to other families in need then please visit the Giving Diapers, Giving Hope website, or their Facebook page.  They accept all forms of cloth diapers (new and used), cloth diapering accessories, and financial donations.  Giving Diapers = Giving Hope!

  2. I have donated once and have another huge box almost ready to ship off. I have been able to buy way too many diapers for my two children so why not pass them on and share cloth love. I love that they help families throughout the whole country.

  3. We have used these diapers since our baby was a Newborn. With 4 little nieces, we knew which brand we wanted and which type. In the family's "mom's circle" it was just well known to go with honest diapers. During our baby shower, one of the gift baskets had a pack of expensive diapers and sure enough, we had 2 blow-outs/leak-throughs in the short amount of time we used them.
