Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is pretty typical as far as ease of use for a fitted.  Snaps do take time but after awhile I've gotten used to it.  The fact that this diaper has a great stretch in the wings really helps when putting it on my wiggle worm.  I also like that the soaker is a petal style soaker that I don't need to fold.  I will say that she does have a new soaker that you do need to fold.  That's not bad, but I personally like petal style.

boogie BUMS One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥ -  I love the fit of this diaper!  The stretch is awesome and it really seems to hug Linc like a glove with room to spare.  I love when a diaper gives me some wiggle room because as you all know by now, I have quite the chunky little man.  This is a slightly fluffy diaper, but not overly fluffy.  I guess it just comes with the hybrid diaper territory.  Most hybrids are pretty fluffy.  As for the one-size feature of this diaper, I think it would have no problem fitting a child all the way up to potty training.  It does get pretty large.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is awesome as far as absorbency!!!  I love that I can have Linc run around in it without a cover with no fear of getting me or my furniture wet.  No it is not waterproof, but it's pretty darn close.  For full protection you will need a cover.  I can go hours during the day without a cover and he will only get a slight cool feeling on the front.  During the night I cover this with a PUL cover and we have no leaks.  That's 12 hours of protection on my heavy wetter that eats the whole night long.

boogie BUMS One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  My wash routine is fairly easy.  I throw the diaper in the wash with the soaker snapped in and then it gets thrown in the dryer.  For some reason although the soaker has two snaps, it never fails that this soaker comes un-snapped in the wash.  The does leave me with the extra step of snapping it in again.  This soaker also takes awhile to dry at approximately 105 minutes due to the way the soaker is sewn with a half moon seam at the top.  *Please note that this rating is based on the soaker design that I received. She currently ships diapers with a snake style soaker which would dry faster and may or may not come un-snapped in the wash.*

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  $30 is a little above average for a WAHM fitted diaper, but not by much.  It's also a one-size diaper so you do get a lot of use out of it and it's also great quality and super cute!  Worth it?  Yes it is.
boogie BUMS One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - Review

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - The quality and durability of this diaper is actually really great!  All the seams were perfect, the snaps work great, and the materials seem to be top notch.  The only reason I didn't give it a perfect score was because the stitching came out of my little label tag on the outside.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  I LOVE the look of this diaper!!!!  I had no hand in picking the colors for this diaper, but let me tell you I gasped when I saw it.  Not only was it in a print that I had always wanted, but the snap colors and interior lining matched up perfectly!  I actually ran this diaper in to show my husband because I was so excited, and I never do that.

In Conclusion:
I would highly recommend this diaper to anyone that wants a high quality fitted, that's cute, one-size, and can be used without a cover.  It might not be the best newborn option, but as soon as your child gets a little bigger this diaper is awesome!

Monkey Rump Diapers One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - Inside and Outside
Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥ -  These are pretty typical as far as ease for a fitted diaper.  Most fitted diapers will have three snaps on each wing and snap in soakers.  I do like that I don't have to fold the soaker, but the fact that there are two soakers attached by one snap each means that they can shift easily.  I then have to line them up which isn't always easy with my crazy boy.

Monkey Rump Diapers OS Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love the fit of these diapers!!!  I get an awesome snug fit on the legs and have room to grow on the waist.  That's saying a lot with my chunky big guy.  Not only that, but this diaper also gets really small so it can also fit a smaller baby as well.  Yes, it's a one-size diaper so the fit isn't perfect on a newborn, but it is doable.  The rise is still a bit high and the diaper a bit bulky, but I do like that you can remove one of the inserts to create a trimmer diaper for a smaller baby.  As for the size of the diaper, it's slightly large and fluffy, but not overly large and fluffy.  It still fits nicely under a cover.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥ - This diaper works really well as far as leak protection.  I can easily let Linc run around the house in this diaper without a cover on and have no fears of finding a sopping wet diaper anytime soon.  This is all thanks to the fact that this is a hybrid diaper.  That means it has a fleece barrier hidden inside that helps to keep the moisture inside the diaper.  It's not waterproof, but it will keep the diaper drier on the outside longer than a regular fitted diaper.  I would also feel ok running a super quick errand in this diaper without a cover.  I've also used this diaper at night with a cover and have had no leaks.  That's about a 12 hour time span.  *Please note that this diaper does require a cover to be waterproof.*

Monkey Rump Diapers OS Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - These are average on wash routine.  They do dry fast (about 75 min in my dryer), but the inserts come undone in the washer.  This means that I have to spend the time to locate and re-snap in the inserts after washing.  It doesn't take long, but it is an extra step.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥ -  At $21 these diapers are on the low side for a WAHM fitted hybrid diaper.  No, they aren't the cheapest fitted diapers that you can find, but for the quality and cuteness these are a great deal.  Plus they're a one-size diaper so that's another plus.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥ - The quality of the diaper shell is really nice.  All the seams are even and straight and the materials look to be of a high quality.  That being said I do have a bit of difficulty with the snaps.  They do snap, but they don't always click in as secure as I would like them to.  I also noticed that the bamboo on the soakers was shrinking more than the velour which created curled edges.  It's not really a function issue, but more an aesthetic issue.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  These diapers are super cute!!!  I'm pretty sure that the designer and I are on the same wavelength because every print that she chooses is totally my style.

Monkey Rump Diapers OS Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
In Conclusion:
I love this diaper!  I would recommend it to anyone that wants a one-size fitted diaper that is super cute and will hold in moisture for a long time.  I do wish the snaps would click in better, but that's my only big hang up on them.  I will warn you though.  If you go check out her shop, you will want to buy.  These diaper prints are tooooooo cute!!!!!!  I just fell in love with the monster trucks print as soon as I saw it and yep, I just had to buy it.  Linc totally rocks the monster trucks.

Little Fancy Pants - One Size (Size: 2) Hybrid Fitted Diaper Review

Little Fancy Pants One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper
Since I've been on the fitted diaper kick I've heard a lot about Little Fancy Pants.  Well, you knew it would happen sooner or later.  Yes, I had to buy one.  This super cute diaper lured me in with it's wonderful fall colors.  It's technically the Reese's Pieces diaper, but it also reminds me of pumpkin pie, fall, and Halloween (all things I love).  Anyways, you can imagine my excitement when I got it in the mail.  It was so fluffy, squishy, soft, stretchy, and cute, all wrapped up in one.  Oh yes, I'm in love with another diaper.  I wish this diaper would have been in my September Fitted Diaper Event line up.  I'm pretty sure it would have come out with an award.  That said, I'm sure you know I love this diaper, but for more on why please check out my review below.

Diaper Features:

Sizing:  One-Size diaper fitting babies from approximately 9-30 lbs via a fold down rise.  Diapers also come in newborn, Size: 1 (old fit one-size), and toddler.

Closure:  Snaps (3 snaps on each wing) and crossover wings

Exterior:  Knit cotton (also available in woven cotton)

Interior Lining:  Cotton/Poly Velour

Hidden Layers:  Poly Fleece

Soaker:  Snap-in petal soaker.  Top petal is topped with velour, a middle layer of sherpa fleece, and a bottom layer of bamboo fleece.  The bottom petal is topped with bamboo fleece, a middle layer of sherpa fleece, and a bottom layer of bamboo fleece.

Manufactured:  USA

Approximate Retail Value:  $24

Little Fancy Pants One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - Inside & Outside

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - With three snaps on each wing this diaper is pretty much average on ease of use for fitted diapers.  What makes it a bit easier is the stretch of the wings.  These wings are SUPER stretchy.  It makes wrapping this diaper around Linc and snapping it way easier than a diaper with little to no stretch at all.  I also like that the petals of the soaker are short so I don't have to fold them down when putting this diaper on Linc.

Little Fancy Pants One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥ - I love the fit of this diaper.  It has amazing stretch!  The wings hug Linc perfectly and the legs are secure, but not too tight.  I can even still cross the wings over so he's got plenty of room to grow in this diaper!  Even on a newborn this diaper seems to work well.  The legs get really small and so does the waist.  Yes, it's going to be a bit bulky since it's not a newborn diaper, but it will work.  I just wish you could separate the soakers so that you could just use one on a newborn or smaller baby.  That would make the diaper less bulky.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is awesome as far as leak protection!  It can last hours during the day without a cover and will only feel damp on the outside and I've had absolutely no problems with it during the night.  Linc can go all night in this diaper with a PUL cover with no leaks at all.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is great as far as wash routine.  Since it snaps, I don't have to worry about hook and loop getting stuck on everything.  Since the insert snaps in, I just leave it snapped in the wash and I don't have to worry about matching it up after it's done drying.  It also dries pretty quickly for a fitted.  This diaper takes about 75 min to dry in the dryer.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  At $24 this diaper is pretty average in price for a WAHM fitted diaper, but for a diaper of this quality I'd say it's an awesome price.  It's also a one-size diaper so that's double awesome.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥♥ - The quality and durability of this diaper is awesome!  I think I'm using that word too much, but it is.  I've had no problems with this diaper at all.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  These diapers are soooooo cute!  She consistantly stocks a lot of diapers each week and they're always way too cute for words.  This diaper totally lured me in with it's Reese's Pieces colors.  Yum!  I love those candies.

In Conclusion:
This is an awesome diaper!  If I had written this review last month before I did the Fitted Diaper Awards then I'm pretty sure it would have received one.  It's great on fit, great on absorbency, super cute, super squishy, super stretchy, and a decent one-size diaper.  Yep, it's an awesome diaper.  So if that's what you're looking for then I would totally recommend this diaper to you!

The Key To A Bulletproof Nighttime Diapering Solution

Bulletproof Nighttime Cloth Diaper Cover
Well September is over and we just got done reviewing tons of fitted diapers.  That got me to thinking... what is the key to success with fitted diapers?  I should clarify.  What is the key to success at night with fitted diapers?  Yes, some fitted diapers are more absorbent than others and a great absorbent diaper is definitely a key ingredient, but that's not what I found to be "THE Key Ingredient".  I could use almost any of the diapers I reviewed for the September Fitted Diaper Event at night and get no leaks (yes, there were a few that I could not).  So what was the key ingredient?  Should I tell you?  Ok, I guess that's the whole point of this post...

The key ingredient to a bulletproof nighttime diapering solution is all in the cover.  Yep, that's right.  If you have the right cover and you put it on correctly then you should have a leak free night provided your fitted diaper (or prefold, or flat for that matter) is somewhat decent in absorbency.  Now I've tried several covers and I keep going back to the same three brands.  Not to say that these three brands are the only ones you could use, but they do have some key features that you want to look for in a nighttime diaper cover.

KEY FEATURES TO LOOK FOR IN A NIGHTTIME DIAPER COVER:
  • SIZE - It's got to be big!  Fitted diapers, flats, and prefolds are usually not too trim when it comes to nighttime solutions.  Some are, but most are fairly bulky.  That said, you're going to want a diaper cover that can cover your diaper completely.
  • INTERIOR GUSSETS - I've used covers both with and without gussets, and have found that those with gussets seem to create a better seal than those that do not have them.
  • STRETCH - Covers that stretch tend to fit your baby better, creating a nice seal.
  • SUPERIOR ADJUSTABILITY - Whether it be snaps or hook & loop closures, you're going to want a cover that will give you the best adjustability.  This is all about fit.  You want a good seal around your baby's waist and legs to keep that moisture in.
  • PUL/TPU/POLY ONLY - You don't want any natural fibers on your cover.  What I'm mainly getting at here is that you don't want a hidden layer of PUL or TPU with a cotton layer over it.  It never fails that the moisture inside will find a way to that cotton exterior before the night is up.  This goes for any cover that has a natural fiber on the outside such as bamboo... but it's usually cotton.
MY NIGHTTIME DIAPER COVERS:
Ok, I want to state again that these are not the only covers that will work at night, but they are the ones in my stash that I use exclusively for nights and rarely fail me.  Oh, and yes these are affiliate links so if you want to buy any of these covers and want to help support this blog then please use these links.  Thanks!!!

Ok, so you have your diaper cover.  Now what do you do?  Just having an awesome diaper cover that meets all of the features above will not guarantee you a bulletproof solution.  It's all about how you use the diaper cover.  I'm sure we all know that you put on your absorbent diaper, be it a fitted, prefold, or flat, and then you put the cover on over it, but do you really put your cover on correctly?  Maybe you're really tired.  Maybe your baby is really wiggly.  Maybe your baby is really cranky and you just want to get them to bed fast.  Maybe you just didn't realize how to put a cover on correctly.  Whatever the reason, you're still getting leaks.  Well there's a checklist I go over when putting on a nighttime diaper cover every night.

THE NIGHTTIME DIAPER COVER CHECKLIST:
  • Put on your absorbent diaper (fitted, prefold, flat).
  • Put your diaper cover on over your absorbent diaper snugly but not so tight that it cuts into their skin.  You just want to make sure that the edges are completely touching your baby's skin, but not digging in.
  • Check the leg openings to make sure that none of the absorbent diaper is sticking out.  If it is then tug on the diaper cover and poke your absorbent diaper in till you no longer see it.  There should be a nice seal on the legs and you shouldn't see any of your absorbent diaper.  Pay special attention to the top of the legs.  You shouldn't see your absorbent diaper ANYWHERE!  If you can't get the cover to stretch over the diaper fully with a little wiggle room then you need a bigger cover.
  • Check the top of the diaper (front and back).  Can your see your absorbent diaper?  You shouldn't be able to.  If you do then tug your diaper cover up over it and poke your absorbent diaper in.  You should have a nice seal around the top of your diaper.  Not tight... but a nice seal.
  • If you use hook and loop closures on your covers then be sure to put pants over the cover.  You don't want your baby to accidentally loosen the hook and loop closures over night.  Even babies that don't pull on their diapers might loosen the closures just by rolling around if the hooks get attached to a blanket or doll.
So there you have it!  That's my bulletproof nighttime diapering solution.  It's all in the cover!  Yes, like I said before, there are a few diapers that I can't use at night, but overall, if I use a good cover and I put it on correctly then I usually have a leak free night.  It never fails that the one night I put on a cover that doesn't meet my requirement, or I don't check the diaper cover application list, is the night I wake up next to a puddle.  Ewwww!  I hope this helps you too and nighttime diaper leaking becomes a thing of the past.  Good Luck!!!

**Please Note!!!:  I'm not saying that these are the only covers that will work or that PUL is your only option.  I do know that wool is a great option.  I just haven't really used it much yet to talk enough about it. **

THE 2012 FITTED DIAPER AWARDS

The Fitted Diaper Awards
Well, we've been through a lot of fitted diapers this month and I loved them all!  I'm officially a fitted cloth diaper convert.  I just can't stop buying them now.  That being said I did love certain diapers for certain reasons more than other diapers.  One diaper would be super trim, but another diaper would be super absorbent, and yet another would be super cute.  I've been getting questions left and right about my faves and I thought...why don't we have a fitted diaper awards ceremony honoring those that performed well above and beyond in the world of fitted cloth diapers.  I've come up with 11 categories and nominated those that were in the September Fitted Diaper Event that fit the best in each category.  After that I pondered, and I analyzed, and I pondered some more till I came up with a winner for each category.  Yes, these are all my own opinions and not a collaborative vote among millions, but I didn't want this to become a popularity contest between the brands to see who could rally up the most votes.  I wanted it to be fair and un-biased.  That said, I tried to make the best selections possible clearing my head of any friendships I've made with these companies/moms, clearing my head of anyone that supplied their diaper to be reviewed, clearing my head of anyone that sponsored prizes for the giveaway, and clearing my head of the popular vote.  Using as fresh and clean of a slate as I could I made my selections and picked my winners.  So without further ado.

The Fitted Diaper Awards nominees are...

Bagshot Row Bamboo - Hybrid Elite Review

Bagshot Row Bamboo Hybrid Elite Fitted Cloth Diaper
I heard of Bagshot Row Bamboo early in my research of fitted cloth diapers this summer.  With all the positive feedback I just had to try one.  Well as soon as I saw this print I just knew it was the one for me.  I had to have it!!!  Unfortunately I had a prior engagement (play date) already planned for the time these diapers were stocking so I enlisted the help of a friend to get this diaper.  Yes, getting these diapers requires help because they sell out in seconds.  Well if you've ever stalked diapers then you know that diapers normally stock in east coast time and I'm pacific coast time.  Well, I converted the time wrong in my head and long story short (too late for that I guess), I just barely got this diaper.  So glad I did though because I'm in love.  Check out my review to see why.

Bagshot Row Bamboo Hybrid Elite Fitted Cloth Diaper - Inside and Outside

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is pretty easy to use.  There are three snaps so it does take some time to put on, but that's pretty typical with fitted diapers and the great stretch of this diaper makes snapping this diaper on a breeze.  I also like the length of the soaker in this diaper.  It's the perfect length and I don't have to fold it down to make it fit in the diaper.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥ - I love the fit of this diaper on my guy!  I've heard some say that it's too trim in between the legs and on the butt, but I like that about this diaper.  Nice and trim.  It's also really stretchy so Linc has room to grow in it still.  He actually still uses the crossover snaps.  As for a newborn the snap version fits ok, but there are leg gaps.  I was able to get a much better fit with the snapless version on a newborn.  I wonder if you could just add snaps later?  Not sure, but it's a thought.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is great as far as leak protection.  I have no fears about Linc going around the house in this fitted diaper without a cover and would even take him to run short errands around town in this diaper without a cover.  Yep, it's that good.  Linc was also able to wear this diaper overnight with a PUL cover and no leaks. *Please note: This diaper does require a cover to be waterproof*

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is pretty easy as far as wash routine.  I just take off the diaper, leave the soaker snapped in, throw it in the wash, and then throw it in the dryer.  Leaving the soaker snapped in saves me the extra step of having to locate the soaker and snapping it back in when putting away my diaper laundry.  I do have to locate the doubler though since it does not snap in.  Dry time is pretty quick on these diapers too (about 75 min).

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is about average in price for a WAHM fitted diaper.  At least it's a one-size diaper so you won't have to worry about sizing up.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Love the quality and durability of this diaper.  I can really tell it's made well and will last a long time.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is soooooo cute!  I just had to have it the second I saw it.  The worst part though.... ALL her diapers are sooooooo cute so I constantly want them all.  Unfortunately I don't always have $$$ in my PayPal account.  Boo!  Why can't money grow on trees?  I'd have a whole farm.

In Conclusion:
I love this diaper!!!  I would recommend it to those that want a nice trim hybrid option that will work on both a skinny and a chunky baby.  You'll also want to check this company out if you're looking for cute diaper.  She stocks seriously cute diapers every week.

Mommy Loves Maddy - OS Hybrid Fitted Review

Mommy Loves Maddy One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper
I've known the owner of Mommy Loves Maddy for quite awhile now and have enjoyed watching her business grow.  We first met in a cloth diaper chat forum talking about the ins and outs of cloth diapering.  During that time she was working on some of her first cloth diaper designs.  I started out testing one of her newborn covers on Linc and LOVED it!  Then I tested out one of her pocket diapers.  The real excitement came when she announced she was going to be adding hybrid fitted cloth diapers to the lineup.  Yay!!!!  I couldn't wait to get it in the mail.  What perfect timing too since the September Fitted Diaper Event was just getting under way.  Yes, this was a last minute add, but I'm so glad I'm able to present it to you.

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥ - With three snaps on each wing this diaper is pretty typical for a fitted diaper.  It does take some time, but once you get the hang of it, then you can snap these pretty quick.  The one item I would change to make this diaper faster to put on is the soakers.  I would love if they snapped in so that I didn't have to worry about keeping them straight while I try to put this diaper on my wiggly baby.  Maybe if one snapped into the other and then into the diaper so that you can still use them individually if you wanted to.  It would also be easier if they were just slightly skinnier.  I do like the wide soakers because they absorb a lot, but they just barely fit into the diaper shell.  Maybe just a 1/2 - 1" skinnier would be good.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love that this diaper has a snap down rise instead of a fold down rise.  I just think that they give you a lot more room for customization and work a lot better too.  I also like that this diaper has cross over wings to give your smaller babies a nice tight fit around the waist.  Now as far as bigger babies this diaper needs a few more snaps.  Linc has already maxed out the waist of this diaper and I've added hip snap covers so that I could expand the waist further without having exposed snaps digging into his skin.  If two more snaps were added to the front panel then he could still fit in this diaper without the hip snap covers.  I do love the nice snug fit around his waist and legs though.  No poop is going to escape this diaper!

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is great as far as leak protection.  I have no fears letting Linc go around the house without a cover on during the day and had no leaks while using this diaper at night with a PUL cover.  I love how you can customize the absorbency of this diaper too.  Since the soakers are not sewn together you can use either one or both of these soakers together depending on how heavy of a wetter your baby is and how trim you want the diaper to be.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ -  Wash routine is pretty typical with this diaper.  I just throw the entire diaper in the wash and I love that I don't have to worry about hook and loop closures.  The inserts are separate so everything gets nice and clean and dries very fast (about 75 min).  The inserts don't snap in though so you will have to hunt around your laundry for the inserts and match them back up before putting this diaper away.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is priced pretty average for a WAHM fitted diaper.  At least it's a one-size diaper so you won't have to size up over the years.  It will be even better when she adds two more snaps to the front panel so that the width can get even bigger without having to use hip snap covers.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - The quality and durability of this diaper is pretty good.  I've had no problems with this diaper.  The only thing I see is that the logo tag writing wears off pretty quickly.  Once in awhile I'll hit a snap that doesn't sound like it has super clicked together, but I haven't had any snaps come undone so I guess they're good.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  I think the Mommy Loves Maddy diapers are so cute.  She's got lots of great prints and my husband just loves this football themed one.

In Conclusion:
Currently I would recommend this diaper to those with a small to average size baby that is anywhere from a light to very heavy wetter.  Larger babies could use this diaper, but I would invest in a pair of hip snap covers if you do.  They're actually really cheep.  I can usually find a pair for $2 on most WAHM sites.  I'm sure that Mommy Loves Maddy will be making some changes to accommodate larger babies though and I'll update you when these changes are made.
