THE 2012 FITTED DIAPER AWARDS

The Fitted Diaper Awards
Well, we've been through a lot of fitted diapers this month and I loved them all!  I'm officially a fitted cloth diaper convert.  I just can't stop buying them now.  That being said I did love certain diapers for certain reasons more than other diapers.  One diaper would be super trim, but another diaper would be super absorbent, and yet another would be super cute.  I've been getting questions left and right about my faves and I thought...why don't we have a fitted diaper awards ceremony honoring those that performed well above and beyond in the world of fitted cloth diapers.  I've come up with 11 categories and nominated those that were in the September Fitted Diaper Event that fit the best in each category.  After that I pondered, and I analyzed, and I pondered some more till I came up with a winner for each category.  Yes, these are all my own opinions and not a collaborative vote among millions, but I didn't want this to become a popularity contest between the brands to see who could rally up the most votes.  I wanted it to be fair and un-biased.  That said, I tried to make the best selections possible clearing my head of any friendships I've made with these companies/moms, clearing my head of anyone that supplied their diaper to be reviewed, clearing my head of anyone that sponsored prizes for the giveaway, and clearing my head of the popular vote.  Using as fresh and clean of a slate as I could I made my selections and picked my winners.  So without further ado.

The Fitted Diaper Awards nominees are...

The Fitted Diaper Awards - The Trimmest Fitted DiaperTRIMMEST FITTED DIAPER
This award goes to the diaper that is either super thin, trim, and/or super narrow between the legs.  I'm also taking into consideration absorbency on this one, so this award goes to the trimmest most absorbent diaper.

Bagshot Row Bamboo - Hybrid Elite Review

Bagshot Row Bamboo Hybrid Elite Fitted Cloth Diaper
I heard of Bagshot Row Bamboo early in my research of fitted cloth diapers this summer.  With all the positive feedback I just had to try one.  Well as soon as I saw this print I just knew it was the one for me.  I had to have it!!!  Unfortunately I had a prior engagement (play date) already planned for the time these diapers were stocking so I enlisted the help of a friend to get this diaper.  Yes, getting these diapers requires help because they sell out in seconds.  Well if you've ever stalked diapers then you know that diapers normally stock in east coast time and I'm pacific coast time.  Well, I converted the time wrong in my head and long story short (too late for that I guess), I just barely got this diaper.  So glad I did though because I'm in love.  Check out my review to see why.

Bagshot Row Bamboo Hybrid Elite Fitted Cloth Diaper - Inside and Outside

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is pretty easy to use.  There are three snaps so it does take some time to put on, but that's pretty typical with fitted diapers and the great stretch of this diaper makes snapping this diaper on a breeze.  I also like the length of the soaker in this diaper.  It's the perfect length and I don't have to fold it down to make it fit in the diaper.

Bagshot Row Bamboo Hybrid Elite Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥ - I love the fit of this diaper on my guy!  I've heard some say that it's too trim in between the legs and on the butt, but I like that about this diaper.  Nice and trim.  It's also really stretchy so Linc has room to grow in it still.  He actually still uses the crossover snaps.  As for a newborn the snap version fits ok, but there are leg gaps.  I was able to get a much better fit with the snapless version on a newborn.  I wonder if you could just add snaps later?  Not sure, but it's a thought.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is great as far as leak protection.  I have no fears about Linc going around the house in this fitted diaper without a cover and would even take him to run short errands around town in this diaper without a cover.  Yep, it's that good.  Linc was also able to wear this diaper overnight with a PUL cover and no leaks. *Please note: This diaper does require a cover to be waterproof*

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is pretty easy as far as wash routine.  I just take off the diaper, leave the soaker snapped in, throw it in the wash, and then throw it in the dryer.  Leaving the soaker snapped in saves me the extra step of having to locate the soaker and snapping it back in when putting away my diaper laundry.  I do have to locate the doubler though since it does not snap in.  Dry time is pretty quick on these diapers too (about 75 min).

Bagshot Row Bamboo Hybrid Elite Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is about average in price for a WAHM fitted diaper.  At least it's a one-size diaper so you won't have to worry about sizing up.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Love the quality and durability of this diaper.  I can really tell it's made well and will last a long time.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is soooooo cute!  I just had to have it the second I saw it.  The worst part though.... ALL her diapers are sooooooo cute so I constantly want them all.  Unfortunately I don't always have $$$ in my PayPal account.  Boo!  Why can't money grow on trees?  I'd have a whole farm.

In Conclusion:
I love this diaper!!!  I would recommend it to those that want a nice trim hybrid option that will work on both a skinny and a chunky baby.  You'll also want to check this company out if you're looking for cute diaper.  She stocks seriously cute diapers every week.

Mommy Loves Maddy - OS Hybrid Fitted Review

Mommy Loves Maddy One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper
I've known the owner of Mommy Loves Maddy for quite awhile now and have enjoyed watching her business grow.  We first met in a cloth diaper chat forum talking about the ins and outs of cloth diapering.  During that time she was working on some of her first cloth diaper designs.  I started out testing one of her newborn covers on Linc and LOVED it!  Then I tested out one of her pocket diapers.  The real excitement came when she announced she was going to be adding hybrid fitted cloth diapers to the lineup.  Yay!!!!  I couldn't wait to get it in the mail.  What perfect timing too since the September Fitted Diaper Event was just getting under way.  Yes, this was a last minute add, but I'm so glad I'm able to present it to you.

Diaper Features:

Mommy Loves Maddy One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my babySizing: One-Size fitting babies from approximately 10-35lbs via a snap down rise

Closure: Snaps (3 snaps per wing) & crossover wings

Exterior: Cotton Knit

Hidden Layers: Poly Fleece

Soaker: This diaper comes with one soaker (white stitching), made with coordinating velour, heavy organic bamboo fleece, and lining fleece. Also included is an organic bamboo fleece doubler (black stitching) to boost absorbency overnight, during nap time, or for those heavier wetters

Manufactured: Canada

Approximate Retail Value: $24

Mommy Loves Maddy One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - Inside and outside

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥ - With three snaps on each wing this diaper is pretty typical for a fitted diaper.  It does take some time, but once you get the hang of it, then you can snap these pretty quick.  The one item I would change to make this diaper faster to put on is the soakers.  I would love if they snapped in so that I didn't have to worry about keeping them straight while I try to put this diaper on my wiggly baby.  Maybe if one snapped into the other and then into the diaper so that you can still use them individually if you wanted to.  It would also be easier if they were just slightly skinnier.  I do like the wide soakers because they absorb a lot, but they just barely fit into the diaper shell.  Maybe just a 1/2 - 1" skinnier would be good.

Mommy Loves Maddy One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love that this diaper has a snap down rise instead of a fold down rise.  I just think that they give you a lot more room for customization and work a lot better too.  I also like that this diaper has cross over wings to give your smaller babies a nice tight fit around the waist.  Now as far as bigger babies this diaper needs a few more snaps.  Linc has already maxed out the waist of this diaper and I've added hip snap covers so that I could expand the waist further without having exposed snaps digging into his skin.  If two more snaps were added to the front panel then he could still fit in this diaper without the hip snap covers.  I do love the nice snug fit around his waist and legs though.  No poop is going to escape this diaper!

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is great as far as leak protection.  I have no fears letting Linc go around the house without a cover on during the day and had no leaks while using this diaper at night with a PUL cover.  I love how you can customize the absorbency of this diaper too.  Since the soakers are not sewn together you can use either one or both of these soakers together depending on how heavy of a wetter your baby is and how trim you want the diaper to be.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ -  Wash routine is pretty typical with this diaper.  I just throw the entire diaper in the wash and I love that I don't have to worry about hook and loop closures.  The inserts are separate so everything gets nice and clean and dries very fast (about 75 min).  The inserts don't snap in though so you will have to hunt around your laundry for the inserts and match them back up before putting this diaper away.

Mommy Loves Maddy One-Size Hybrid Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is priced pretty average for a WAHM fitted diaper.  At least it's a one-size diaper so you won't have to size up over the years.  It will be even better when she adds two more snaps to the front panel so that the width can get even bigger without having to use hip snap covers.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - The quality and durability of this diaper is pretty good.  I've had no problems with this diaper.  The only thing I see is that the logo tag writing wears off pretty quickly.  Once in awhile I'll hit a snap that doesn't sound like it has super clicked together, but I haven't had any snaps come undone so I guess they're good.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  I think the Mommy Loves Maddy diapers are so cute.  She's got lots of great prints and my husband just loves this football themed one.

In Conclusion:
Currently I would recommend this diaper to those with a small to average size baby that is anywhere from a light to very heavy wetter.  Larger babies could use this diaper, but I would invest in a pair of hip snap covers if you do.  They're actually really cheep.  I can usually find a pair for $2 on most WAHM sites.  I'm sure that Mommy Loves Maddy will be making some changes to accommodate larger babies though and I'll update you when these changes are made.

Bunnzoo Diapers - Fitted Diaper Review

BUNNZOO Diapers One-Size Fitted Cloth Diaper
I first heard of Bunnzoo Diapers when I won two of their pocket diapers in a blog giveaway.  Although I've started stearing clear of pocket diapers, I ended up loving them and the way they fit Lincoln.  So when I started planning my September Fitted Diaper Event, I naturally went to Bunnzoo to see if they wanted to participate.  I was hoping for a fitted diaper that fit just as great as their pocket diapers.  Well the first samples I got ended up being pockets.  then the second set of samples ended up being pockets too.  Finally on the third shipment I received fitteds.  Look at this super cute puppy print!  Anyways, long story short... you can expect a review of the Bunnzoo Pocket Diapers in October with an AWESOME giveaway!  Till then check out my review of their fitted diapers below.

BUNNZOO Diapers One-Size Fitted Cloth Diaper - Inside & Outside
Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥ - Most fitted diapers I've tested have three snaps on each wing which is time consuming in itself, but I can handle it.  This diaper on the other hand has four snaps per wing.  I kind of wish she would eliminate two of those so I could get this diaper on my wiggly baby a bit faster.  I love that I don't have to worry about a separate soaker though.  It makes up for the time it takes me to snap the wings.

BUNNZOO Diapers One-Size Fitted Cloth Diaper - On my baby
Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love the fit of this diaper on my chunky monkey!  First off, I love that they use a snap down rise.  I find that you get a lot more adjustability that way vs a fold over rise.  This particular diaper actually has four size settings and Linc isn't even on the biggest setting yet since it has such a high rise.  I also love that the diaper is so trim between the legs.  Linc's just starting to really move and I love that there isn't a lot of bulk between the legs to slow him down.  The waist of this diaper also gets pretty big so there is still room to grow before Linc maxes out the width.  As for this diaper fitting a newborn, this diaper is ok.  There were still leg gaps on my newborn model while wearing this diaper on the smallest setting.  This diaper also doesn't have crossover snaps, yet the waist did fit ok on my newborn model.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is ok as far as leak protection.  Linc was able to wear this diaper during the day without a cover and felt wet on the front after he went pee.  I would keep a close eye on this diaper if you are going to have your baby go coverless.  Both testers used this diaper at night with a PUL cover and both leaked so I would not recommend this diaper for nighttime use unless you have a very light wetter.  *Please note: This diaper does require a cover to be waterproof*

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Because these diapers have the soaker entirely sewn in I don't have to worry about keeping track of a separate soaker when washing.  I just throw this diaper in the washer and then into the dryer.  On the flip side, because the soaker is sewn entirely into this diaper, it does take awhile to dry (approximately 105 min).

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥ - These diapers are pretty well priced for a fitted diaper.  Most are about $15.50 with a few less and a few more than that.  It's also awesome because they're a one size diaper so you don't have to worry about sizing up through the years.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥♥ - For the most part these diapers seem to be put together well.  I have a few of her pockets and then this fitted diaper, but unfortunately the front seam on the fitted diaper came out.  It looks like the woven cotton outer layer was cut too short.  It doesn't affect the function, but it's all frayed at the top.  Now I've been so crazy this month that I haven't even notified the company about this flaw.  I'm sure if I did she'd send a new one out ASAP because she's pretty quick about that stuff, but I just haven't had the time.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥ -  There are a lot of cute prints in the Bunnzoo store and I really love the nice trim design of this fitted diaper.  It's one of her latest and greatest new designs.  There is no bulk between the legs so it's easy to get a cover over and even trim enough to put pants over.

In Conclusion:
I would recommend this diaper to those already past the newborn stage that want a cute well priced fitted for their light to average wetter.  This is also great for those looking for a nice trim fit for their baby.

La Petite Krott Creations - Bamboo Fitted Review

La Petite Krott Creations Bamboo Fitted Cloth Diaper
This super cute ocean wave diaper came from a super sweet mom all the way in Canada.  I can't believe she was able to get this diaper made and answer all my questions in time before her newest addition came to their family.  I bet her baby has the cutest bum on the block!  Well I know my little man does.  I really wish I lived at the beach with this diaper or at least a little bit closer.  This diaper reminds me of the ocean waves and it would look awesome on Linc while he plays in the water and sand.  Hopefully my little growing machine stops growing so fast so this diaper will fit him next summer when we hit up the beach again.

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥ - This diaper is pretty easy to use.  I love that it only has two snaps on each wing so snapping is a lot faster than most other fitted diapers.  I also love that this is a sized diaper so I don't have to worry about rise settings at all.  I will say that this diaper would be a lot easier if the diaper had more stretch though.  It would be easier to wrap and snap.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This is a sized diaper so you really don't need to worry about adjustability, but even so I do like the adjustability of the soaker.  You can easily switch it up to use one or both soakers.  The fit of this diaper seems ok.  It fits well on the waist as well as the legs, but there really isn't a lot of stretch to it which is weird since this is a knit fabric.  I'm also thinking that Linc might need to move up to the next size since he's so chunky. That might be the problem.  Tester #2 had a problem with the stretch as well.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - The absorbency on this diaper is average.  I tested this diaper out during the day without a cover several times and after Linc pee'ed the diaper would feel wet or soaked on the outside.  Not a problem if you're keeping a close watch on your child's bum at home, but my husband didn't appreciate getting wet sometimes.  Haha!  It did work well at night though.  Both testers were able to use this diaper the entire night with a PUL cover and had no leaks at all.  **UPDATE: The owner is going to start using a much more heavy duty bamboo fleece for the soakers in her diapers so they will be much more absorbent**

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is ok as far as wash routine.  I just leave the soakers snapped in, throw it in the wash, and then throw it in the dryer.  This saves me the time of hunting down and snapping my soaker back in when the wash is done.  I will say that this diaper did take awhile to dry though.  On average it took about 105 minutes in the dryer.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ - These diapers are pretty average in price for a WAHM fitted diaper.  They are sized though so you will need to size up when you're baby grows.  She does have a OS diaper though.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥♥ - For the most part this diaper seems pretty good as far as quality and durability.  There was a little uneven stitching on the top, but nothing really noticeable.  My main problem was with the snaps.  They weren't lined up straight on the front panel  and the snaps on the wing didn't match up with the snaps on the front panel.  The snaps on the wings were too close together to snap the snaps every other snap, but too far apart so I got a little bulge snapping every snap.  This could easily be fixed by the seamstress on her snap pattern.  *After analyzing this again I think it's not that the snaps don't line up... it's just that there really isn't any stretch so it's hard to pull the wings to the second snap. **UPDATE: The owner is going to revise her snap pattern to remedy some of the snap problems**

The Look: ♥♥♥♥ -  I like the look of these diapers.  She has some really cute prints available and I like the way the legs and back ruffle.  I also like the trim design.  The print I have reminds me of the ocean.

In Conclusion:
I would recommend these diapers to those looking for a super cute diaper in a custom sized fit.  I can't wait to see the upcoming changes that the owner has in store for us.  She's going to be updating the snap design as well as the absorbency.
