Thirsties - Duo Fab Fitted Review

Thirsties Duo Fab Fitted Cloth DiaperThirsties has always been a tried and true brand for me.  I love all the Thirsties products.  I've tried their covers, pockets, all-in-one's, hemp inserts, and now their fitteds.  Ok, I actually had one of their fitteds way back when Linc was just a newborn, but I decided to get another one so I could test it out on my now not so little baby boy.  Haha!  Is it funny that I even bought it in the same color that I had it in before?  I just noticed that right now.  Yes, I love lime green.  I'm not sure what it is about the Thirsties products that I love so much, but I'm sure it has to do with the fact that they fit great and they work even better.  Sure there are a few minor things I would change, but they're still at the top of my list.  Check out below what I thought of their Duo Fab Fitteds.

Diaper Features:

Sizing:  Two size diaper system.  Size 1 fits babies from 6-18 lbs via a snap down rise.  Size 2 fits babies from 18-40 lbs via a snap down rise.

Diaper Construction:  Turned and Topstitched

Closure:  I am using the snaps (2 snaps on each wing with crossover wings), but these diapers also come in hook & loop.

Exterior:  Cotton Velour in 6 color choices.

Interior Lining:  Microfleece

Soaker:  The microfiber soaker is completely sewn in on the sides with a tunnel behind to stuff additional absorbency and to make washing and drying easier.  The top of the soaker is lined with microfleece for a stay dry feel.

Manufactured:  USA

Approximate Retail Value:  $17

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ -  I find this diaper super easy to use.  That's one of the reasons I love Thirsties.  They are so easy.  The soaker is fully attached so no need to make sure a seperate soaker is in the right place, there are only two snaps on each wing, so snapping is a breeze, and I personally think a snap down rise is faster and easier to use than a fold down rise.

Thirsties Duo Fab Fitted Cloth Diaper - On My BabyAdjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  Fit is another reason I love Thirsties products.  This diaper fits Linc perfectly! Currently I have it snapped to the middle setting on my chunky monkey.  I also love that this is a two size system with three size adjustments for each size diaper.  It really makes for a diaper that lasts from birth to potty training.  That being said, our tester #2 did find that this diaper was a bit short on the rise.  I personally am a lover of diapers that ride under the belly so the rise seems good to me.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Unfortunately leak protection isn't that great with this diaper.  As is, I would say that this diaper is suited for light to average wetters.  If you have a heavy wetter, or even a baby that's a heavy average wetter like Linc, then I would suggest doubling this diaper up.  Just stick a doubler in the tunnel of the diaper.  That will greatly extend the wear time of this diaper.  Linc was barely able to wear this diaper at night and I found that when Linc or our tester #2 pee'ed, the diaper would get wet very fast.  *Please note: This diaper does need a cover to be waterproof.*

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ - This diaper is very easy to wash since the soaker is sewn in, but very long to dry.  This diaper took about 105 min to dry in my dryer.  If you get their hook and loop version then you'll also have to make sure that you apply the tabs to the laundry tabs before washing or you'll get diaper trains.  I really wouldn't suggest the hook and loop anyways.  It's not the best quality.  I'd go snaps all the way with Thirsties.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥ -  At $17 this is pretty average for a mainstream fitted diaper.  Because it's a two size system, you will need to size up, but you'll only need to do it once.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - The quality and durability of this diaper is pretty good.  The lining is average, and I wouldn't recommend the hook and loop, but other than that the diaper is top notch.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ -  This diaper is pretty average on looks.  It comes in six different fun colors and is super soft and squishy looking.  I am a sucker for this lime green color though.

In Conclusion:
I would recommend this diaper for light to average wetters and wouldn't recommend using it without a cover unless you put a doubler in the tunnel.  Linc's a little too heavy of a wetter for this diaper, but I would totally recommend them to someone planning to use it with a cover or on a very light wetter.  They actually worked great on Linc when he was a newborn.

  1. Yup, I love these dipes as well. The fit is really good--there is a lot of stretch around the legs and tummy, so there are never gaps on my skinny little man. I have three, and all of them are hook and loop. I also dislike the hook and loop for it's un-stickiness. I often find they have come undone in the washer or dryer, sticking to other dipes (and thus making them wear out faster).

    1. Have you tried the snaps? I'm a snaps lover now, but when I wasn't Thirsties was one of the only brands that I did like the snaps. They are sooooo easy.

  2. I love the snaps in Thirsties fitted diapers. I would love it if they put bamboo or hemp as the soaker instead of microfiber, but do like that there's a pocket to add an insert for extra absorbency. Overall, I definitely recommend Thirsties fitteds, but list the reservations above.

  4. I love that there is a pocket so that I can stuff an extra insert in there if I need to! I love my Geffen Baby Absorbers and they would be perfect for that!

  5. I just started cloth diapering my 14 month old, and the only fitteds we have are homemade by a friend. I've heard that these are really good with newborns, and I intend to research them a lot more when I get pregnant again! I'll be back to read the review again then!

    1. These were great on a newborn. I got them in the hook and loop though so I could get a nice tight fit.

  6. I just tried my first fab fitteds (thanks for the giveaway, Thirsties!) and I love them for daytime :-) They just seem so comfy for little man, more so than all of the other fitteds I have. I'm even thinking about selling my workhorses and getting more of these.

FYI I washed last night and flipped this diaper inside out before putting it in the dryer. Bone dry after 72min on medium (I also put two dry bath towels in the dryer).

  7. Thanks for the review! I like two size systems like the Duo. I just find the OS diapers too bulky for small babies.

  8. I love the Thirsties Duo Diaper, and I wish they would incorporate their awesome hemp into their fitteds. It's disappointing that they take so long to dry (105 minutes whoa!) and don't absorb more. But the colors are pretty cute.

  9. I'm so glad for all these reviews! I tthink it's a great idea to make it stuff able and still have a sewn-in insert, and I'll take what you said about leaking and drying time into consideration.

  11. I had one of these but had to sell it because no matter what I couldn't get it clean. I used it at night with a booster for my 12 month old average wetter and he would get ammonia burns from it. It is the ONLY diaper I have ever had issues with and I have used and still use a lot of microfiber inserts, even at night. Not sure what the issue was with this one. We didn't have any leaks with it though, so that is nice.

    1. Bummer. I did see a tip above about drying and i bet it might have helped with cleaning too. She turns hers inside out when washing and drying. Great idea I thought!

  12. I love these diapers and have never had any problem with getting them clean - although there have been other diapers that haven't worked for us that others raved about!

  13. I really want to give these a try too! The Thirsties Fab Fitteds (before they were the duos) were my first cloth diapers! So if they are pretty identical to those I'm sure I will love them!

  14. I am finding out that one size is just to bulky so I like the differs sizes.

  15. I have 2 of these diapers and I am not a huge fan. When I got them I was hoping to use them at night but they just don't work that way. :(

  16. I had a couple of Thirsties Duo Size 2 covers that never fit well with prefolds, but once I tried them over fitteds and the fit great!

  17. We have a Thirsties Fitted and they are nice and trim. You were right about not being for heavy wetters but we find this to be a nice diaper for at home use :)

  18. $17 is really affordable for a fitted! Thanks for the review; I haven't used this one yet.

  19. I have a lot of Thirsties but I have not tried this one as yet. It looks super soft.

  20. Very cute! I lovethe bright colors -I don't remember looking at this one before, ubt I think I was initially against all microfleece/microfiber against the baby so that's probably why. It didn't turn out to be an issue for us, but we have a heavy wetter so this one probably isn't for us. Too cute though!
