FuzziBunz Elite / One-Size / Perfect Size - Comparison Review

I don't think there's a modern cloth diapering momma that hasn't heard of the FuzziBunz cloth diaper line.  FuzziBunz has been one of the leading cloth diaper manufacturers for over ten years and still going strong.  I knew very early on in my cloth diaper research that I wanted to test out a FuzziBunz diaper.  I was totally stoked when I found both the One-Size and Perfect Size versions on deal a day sites and then even more stoked when I was offered the opportunity to test and review the new Elite pocket diaper.  I'll admit I was a bit worried at first when the XS FuzziBunz didn't work for us, but once I got into the One-Size and larger Perfect size diapers it's been smooth sailing.  I'm assuming the problem was that he was a big baby with a big stomach and super skinny legs.  Now that his legs have caught up to his body size we have no problems getting a great fit with these diapers.  FuzziBunz are now some of my go-to diapers and I've detailed below exactly why.

FuzziBunz One-Size Elite Pocket Diaper - $19.95 (Overall Rating: ♥♥♥♥)
The FuzziBunz One-Size Elite Pocket Diaper is the newest creation from FuzziBunz.  It's a take-off of their original One-Size pocket diaper, only with a few minor, yet awesome changes.  Both are one-size diapers with elastic adjustments in the back and leg casings, but on the Elite, they have moved the button adjustment locations from the front of the lining to inside of the pocket.  This is great because now the buttons do not irritate the baby's legs and I don't have to worry about sticking the extra elastic into the little hidey hole anymore.  Whoot!  Oh yes, the little joys of cloth diapering.  Another difference you'll notice between the Elite and the standard One-Size diaper are the inserts.  The Elite diaper comes with two minky inserts (1 large & 1 small) instead of two microfiber inserts.  I love the feel of the minky and no matter how many times I wash it, it's always bright white and soft.  The minky inserts are also thinner than the microfiber inserts so the overall diaper is a lot trimmer looking.  The whole diaper in general is a lot thinner than the standard One-Size diaper.  Love that!  I also noticed  that the snaps are a bit different in placement and there are two less snaps.  So far I haven't noticed the difference in the snap placement from the original version.  Both work great for me, but the two less snaps really cleans up the look of the front of the diaper.  The last difference between the Elite and the standard One Size diaper as well as the Perfect size is the lining.  I really can't see the difference personally, but it's supposed to be quicker drying than the original lining.  See below for the complete performance review on the new One Size Elite Pocket Diaper.

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥ - Snaps take a bit more time than a hook and loop diaper, but after a few changes you get the hang of it.  The pocket is a bit tight so sometimes I really have to work at getting the insert in place.  The one-size system is a little more time consuming than their perfect size system and the elastic adjustments take a little more trial and error to get a good fit than a snap down rise, but when I do get it right it's an awesome custom fit for Lincoln.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - With the different leg adjustments and waist adjustments I've always gotten a great fit with this diaper.  I love how customized I can get with the fit when I combine the leg elastic, the back elastic, the waist snaps, and the hip snaps.  I also love the nice trim fit of the Elite vs the One-Size diaper as well.  Anytime I can get less bulk in between Lincoln's legs I'm happy, and I'm sure he's happy as well.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I rarely if ever have leaks with this diaper.  This is one of my go to night time diapers.  Because of the great fit all messes are securely contained.  As far as the inserts, I use one during the day and change every 2 hours.  At night I usually use one of the minky inserts and one hemp insert for a full 12-13 hours of protection.  I have used both minky inserts though and haven't had a problem that way either.  I just prefer the trimmer fit of a minky and a hemp.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ - My wash routine is very easy.  I make sure all my inserts are out, wash the diapers and inserts together, hang dry the diapers, and machine dry my inserts.  Easy!  The diapers dry in no time at all (15-30 min maybe).  The inserts also dry very fast and always come out super soft and bright white.  The only time consuming part is re-stuffing all the diapers.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥ - This is a pretty average price for a one-size main stream pocket diaper.  You really get a lot of use out of one single diaper.  I know ours fit very early on, but I can't speak for a very large child yet.  I guess we'll see.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love the quality and durability of the entire FuzziBunz line (with the exception of the hook and loop version).  Since it's a snap diaper it lasts a very long time, and they even give you an extra set of elastic just in case you need to change it out.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥ - I love the clean lines of this diaper and because it's a snap diaper I don't have to worry about dingy aplix.  I also like that the rise adjustments are contained within the diaper so that I don't have all the snaps showing on a snap-down rise.  The colors are bright and vibrant too.  I do wish they would add some fun prints though.  Compared with the regular One-Size version I really like the trim look of this diaper too.

FuzziBunz One-Size Pocket Diaper - $19.95 (Overall Rating: ♥♥♥♥)
The standard FuzziBunz One-Size Pocket Diaper is probably the one most of you have heard of.  This pocket diaper is most well known for it's hidden elastic adjustments vs the typical snap down rise on the front of the diaper.  I really like this feature because as I've noticed recently on some of my two size diaper systems that Lincoln's legs press up against the top snap when it's fully snapped down and it leaves marks on his legs.  Poor baby.

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥ - Snaps take a bit more time than a hook and loop diaper, but after a few changes you get the hang of it.  The pocket is a bit tight so sometimes I really have to work at getting the insert in place.  The one-size system is a little more time consuming than their perfect size system and the standard one-size is more time consuming than the Elite because you have to poke the elastics back into their holes now and then.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥ - With the different leg adjustments and waist adjustments I've always gotten a great fit with this diaper.  I love how customized I can get with the fit when I combine the leg elastic, the back elastic, the waist snaps, and the hip snaps.  It's a little bulkier than the Elite, but not by much.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I rarely if ever have leaks with this diaper.  This is one of my go to night time diapers.  Because of the great fit all messes are securely contained.  As far as the inserts, I use one during the day and change every 2 hours.  At night I usually use one of the microfiber inserts and one hemp insert for a full 12-13 hours of protection.  I have yet to try both microfiber inserts because it would just make the diaper way too bulky and the opening is so tight that it's hard to get both inserts in.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ - My wash routine is very easy.  I make sure all my inserts are out, wash the diapers and inserts together, hang dry the diapers, and machine dry my inserts.  Easy!  The diapers dry in no time at all (30 min maybe).

Compared with the regular Elite version I really like the trim look of the Elite better.

FuzziBunz Perfect Size Pocket Diaper - $13.95-$16.95 (Overall Rating: ♥♥♥♥)
The FuzziBunz Perfect Size Pocket Diaper is another diaper that most of you have probably heard of.  This diaper makes adjustments easy.  All you have to worry about are two snaps on each wing.  That's it!  The Perfect Size system also helps to solve the problem that most one-size diapers have (One size diapers don't fit the smallest baby or the largest baby).  They also will last through more children since you won't be using the same diaper throughout a child's entire diaper wearing lifetime.  You'll only use each diaper size for a certain amount of time leaving your diaper in much better condition for your next child.  I personally am on my last child so this doesn't matter to me, but I do love the easy no need for adjustments philosophy.  The easier the better I say!

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ Snaps take a bit more time than a hook and loop diaper, but after a few changes you get the hang of it.  The perfect size diaper is actually easier than the one-size diapers because you only have two snaps on each wing instead of three.  I also like that I don't have to worry about any elastic adjustments.  The diaper is already perfectly sized for my baby.  On the down side, the pocket is a bit tight so sometimes I really have to work at getting the insert in place.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥ - Generally these diapers fit pretty well.  Every now and then I can't get a perfect fit though.  Because I can't get the extra adjustments from the elastic I have to just rely on the adjustments of the snaps.  Sometimes Linc is between snaps and I'll get a leg gap.  Usually in a week or so it will go back to a perfect fit.  I do have to say that the XS did not work for us though.  I think Linc's waist was just so much bigger than his legs that it threw the sizing off.  Now that he's evened out it works great!

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥ - I rarely get any leaks with this diaper.  Yes, it has happened, but not that often.  As far as the inserts, I use the provided microfiber insert during the day and change every 2 hours.  At night I usually use the microfiber insert and one hemp insert for a full 12-13 hours of protection.  One thing that should be noted about the Perfect Size diaper is that it only comes with one insert so if you're looking to double up at night then you'll have to purchase extra inserts.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥ - My wash routine is very easy.  I make sure all my inserts are out, wash the diapers and inserts together, hang dry the diapers, and machine dry my inserts.  Easy!  The diapers dry in no time at all (30 min maybe).  The inserts also dry very fast and always come out super soft and bright white.  The only time consuming part is re-stuffing all the diapers.

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Even though this is a sized diaper and you have to order each size, I still think you get an average bang for your buck since the pricing is lower than the one-size versions.  It's also a great quality so you'll definitely be able to use these for future children.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥♥ - I love the quality and durability of the entire FuzziBunz line (with the exception of the hook and loop version).  Since it's a snap diaper it lasts a very long time.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥ - The look of this diaper is pretty much exactly the same as the other two FuzziBunz versions.  It has the same nice clean look and bright vibrant colors.  I do wish they would add some fun prints though.  As for the shape I would say it leans more towards the trim fit like the Elite, but a little wider.

IN CONCLUSION ...
Overall I really like the FuzziBunz line.  I love all three diaper types and use each type equally.  If you twisted my arm and asked me to choose between the three I would say that the Elite is my favorite, the perfect size is my second favorite, and the one-size would be my third favorite.  I like the adjustability and trim fit of the Elite.  I like the trim fit and easy, no fuss, no need for adjustments of the Perfect Size diaper.    That doesn't mean I don't like the standard One-Size diaper.  I love it too.  My main downfall with these diapers is the tight opening and how hard they are to stuff.  I guess that's the trade off for a trim fit though.  It's a good thing I have small hands.  I'd definitely recommend this line to anyone looking to try cloth diapering or a cloth diaper veteran looking to try a new diaper.  Love my FuzziBunz!

  5. Great review! I started out my stash with a whole collection of Fuzzibunz. I DEFINITELY prefer the Elite to the original one-size. I've noticed the lining on the Elites holds up better than on the original OS, and like you mentioned, it's wonderful not to worry about the buttons rubbing up against Aubrey's legs. I gave her a callous before I realized this could happen - I felt SO bad! But we do love the FB. Once we got the elastic adjusted perfectly, they worked like a charm (although not overnight - she is a VERY heavy wetter!).

  8. I had a perfect size that I just couldn't get to like.... but most of my stash are FB OS diapers. I am toying with trying an Elite just to see what I think of them!

  10. What a great comprehensive review of the FuzziBunz diapers. We have and love both the One-Size and the Elite. After reading this review I'm even more convinced that I should try the Perfect Size. My little ones tend to have skinny legs, but they also have small bellies so maybe we'll get a perfect fit in them even from birth!

  11. Nice comparison. I would love to try the Elite and see if I like it better than the original OS. I love the Perfect Size but didn't like the original OS at all

  12. LOL @ "hidey hole" :-)
The original FB's were the first diapers we used when I started CD-ing. I haven't tried the Elite but would love to! Especially if they are slimmer like you mentioned. I thought the original cut was pretty slim so I would like to see how the Elite fits.
I haven't tried the perfect fit yet only because I didn't want to have to buy multiple sizes and prefer OS diapers. I think I would consider XS perfect sizes for a NB though since the OS seem a little bit for a tiny baby.

  13. I have one Elite and a couple original OS and Sized, and I will admit, the new sizing system is nice. However, I'm not completely sold on the new inserts -- I can't explain it, but they don't seem as absorbent. ngiraldi at gmail dot com

  14. I have heard that from a few people Nikki. I didn't see a difference personally though. I might just not have as heavy of a wetter.

  27. I heard that these diapers actually work well on newborns, even though they are one size diapers. As a result, I'm interested in making them a fairly significant part of our stash!

  28. This is a great comparison. I also have a few of each and love them for different reasons. The OS are so trim but that pocket is so difficult to stuff. The PS are a great fit but a bit more bulky.

  50. Thank you for comparing allt hree!
I have a one size diaper. It's my husband's favorite. But he doesn't have to stuff it. I have a hard time stuffing it because the pocket it so small.
I'd love to try an Elite though. I have done a lot of research on cloth diapers and so many people seem to have leaks with them but I never have.
