Print: Camouflage E02 / $5.59
Before I purchased this diaper I had never heard of Alva Baby. Then I started hearing about a few people purchasing them on the Fertility Friend message boards. After so many people mentioning them and hearing about the great price, I just had to get one to try out. Going on the website was great! ... and overwhelming. They have so many prints to choose from so it was hard to decide on just one. In the end I decided on their standard pocket diaper (They call it an AIO on their website for some reason) in a green camouflage minky print. I also added an extra insert since they were so cheep ($1.88). The best part yet ... shipping is free!!!! The website states that shipping will take about 3-4 weeks though (*this diaper is manufactured in China*) so I sat back and was ready for a long wait.
To my surprise I received the diaper in 10 days. Yay! Unfortunately the package wasn't sealed all the way and the product wasn't wrapped in plastic so my extra insert was sticking out of the package and stuck to the opening of the envelope. I'm hoping the glue will just wash out. Other than that though, I was totally excited when I saw the diaper. The print is so cute and the diaper is so soft. I just want to rub my hands over it all day long. This is a one size (OS) diaper and fits babies from 7-33 pounds. To adjust the size they have a snap down rise on the front of the diaper with three rows of snaps and 3 rise settings (small, medium, & large). They also have a snap wing closure complete with two waist snaps and one hip snap. To put this diaper on I like to snap the rise first, the hips second, and the waist last. Going in that order seems to be the fastest and gets the best fit. This is a pocket diaper so no cover is needed for it. It already has it's waterproof PUL layer built in.
Inside the diaper there is a layer of fleece and a generous pocket opening in the back. I really like that there is an additional flap on the pocket so that I can tuck the insert under it. It just makes the diaper look more clean and secures the insert. Included with this diaper is one three layer microfiber insert. One insert less than other pocket diapers I have purchased, but for only $1.88 more I purchased another one. I did notice that this diaper is extremely easy to stuff and I can do it very quickly without the insert getting bunched up. I also noticed that the fleece does not seem to be as great of a quality as some of the other fleece interiors that I've seen. I'm curious if it will pill more than the others when I wash it. We will soon see.
Overall I am really happy with this diaper and so glad that I decided to test it out. I think that for the price I got a great deal and a great diaper. Can't wait to try it out on our newest addition and put it to the test. Don't forget to check back this fall for my "Performance Review" on the Alva Baby pocket diaper and for more Adventures In Fluff.

Ooh, I like that it has a flap in the back for the insert - why is is that the "cheapest" diapers sometimes have the nicest features!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited that you like this! I want to try them SO bad but DH would kill me if I bought more diapers!
ReplyDeleteI read & commented on First Glance Review on Alva Baby Pocket Diapers... <3 it, and thank you for trying them!

Only $5.59 for a pocket diaper - amazing! Thanks for the review - I will definitely have to look more into these.
ReplyDeleteI will be waiting to hear how it holds up over time before purchasing any of these. Please keep us posted on it's performance.
ReplyDeleteI love my Alvababy's and we have been using them for about 4 months now and pilling!!!
ReplyDeleteThis diaper looks great! Especially at that price. Thanks for the detailed review, I definitely want to order some. Now to convince DH that not everything from China is dodgy. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI order a package of 20 Alvababys back at the end of March for $84. I gave my sister 6 and kept 14 of them for myself. These make up the majority of my stash and I love them! I've been using them for almost 3 months, and they still look brand new! We did lose one due to a cracked bicycle seat, my son's diaper got caught on the sharp plastic and it tore through the PUL, thank goodness his fluffy protected his bum and at less that $5.00 a diaper, I was not concerned about the loss. Overall tho, I absolutely love these diapers and would/have suggested them to other people!
ReplyDeleteJaxMommy & Virginia - It's so great to hear from those of you that have tried them out. I'm glad to hear that you love them and would recommend them to others. I can't wait to put ours to the test.
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing price! I've never seen pocket diapers that cheap!
ReplyDeleteThat is the cheapest diaper I have ever seen. I hope it holds up for you!! Would like to try it to see myself. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to have a new diaper blog to follow! I love cute prints, and quick shipping is a plus! That is crazy cheap too. I would love to see a post in a few months on how they hold up.
ReplyDeleteI commented on your Alva diaper review.
ReplyDeleteThese look great! I love that they have hip snaps to avoid the dreaded wing droop!!
ReplyDeletei had always wanted to try one of these diapers! i love the prints and features. the price is especially amazing!
ReplyDeleteThey seem very similar to the GoGreen (original) and Lovely Pocket diapers, I would be interested in seeing a comparison of all these diapers. I've tried the Lovely and GoGreen and they look like they could be manufactured in the same place (same/similar design and prints; they are both inexpensive brands as well, but are working and holding up nicely! ngiraldi at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI love when pocket diapers have that extra flap over the insert!
ReplyDelete$6 for a diaper?! And just another $1 for an extra soaker? And free shipping? It literally sounds too good to be true... They look exactly like GoGreen Pockets, which I love. But they literally look exactly the same. Same prints, same cut. I prefer the Champ GoGreen, which has a better snap system and doesn't slide around on baby as much.
ReplyDeleteI just did a search for comparison reviews between Alva & the original GoGreen. They're supposedly equal in PUL, cut, absorbtion.. the whole shebang. Happy Flute and GroovyBunz are also Asian based companies that sell the same diaper.
what a great price! so glad that your insert did not fall out while in transit! the insert interests me the most - one would think microfiber is microfiber...!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to try some of these out. I have two friends who have bought them and been impressed with these diapers.
ReplyDeleteJust looked these up last night since I saw them somewhere compared to kawii and sunbaby. I was so nervous to order them but now that you say they are nice at first glance i think i will give them a try.

For being so cheap this seems like a pretty good deal. It sucks that your packaged was partially opened when it arrived though...plus makes me a little skeptical since it's manufactured in China-but worth the try. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat price for a cute cloth diaper!

This is an old enough post I've been looking for your performance review before I dive in and buy some. SOOOO curious to know if they held up for you.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I didn't use this diaper a ton since my collection is pretty large, but I've had no wear or tear on the diaper. It was definitely worth the $5 it cost.
DeleteThank you for this review and video! I was very confused how the one size would fit all, but thanks to your video - I get it! Our boy is due in July and this is our first dive into cloth diapering :) eeek! We just ordered our big order from Alva baby! Thanks again Super Mom!
