Surro Files - 15 Weeks in Monterey with a Wiggly Baby!

The Bun
This week the baby is about the size of a navel orange (4 in) and 2.5 oz.  The hair on the baby's head is growing in and the follicles will make pigment if the baby has dark hair.  Around the body, there's still fine hair (lanugo) to protect against being constantly exposed to the amniotic fluid.  The baby's skin is thin and nearly translucent.  If you were to take a look inside the womb you'd see small blood vessels forming underneath the skin.  Some babies may even be starting to suck their thumb around this time.

The Oven
Exciting news in the oven this week!!!!!!  I've felt baby Stitch move!!!!!  It's very subtle and I'm sure if I wasn't REALLY paying attention then I would not notice at all, but it is there.  Once in awhile I'll feel a tiny kick motion, but mostly it's a swoosh feeling.  Like sliding under the skin of my belly.  This is really pretty amazing to me, because I've never felt my own kids before 17 weeks.  At least not enough to know for sure if it's the baby or not.  I'm going to guess that Belle and Adam will have a super active bundle on their hands.  Very fitting with the name Stitch.  Haha!

Other news this week...  I had jury duty.  Boo!  I've been trying to get out of it all year long, but alas, I finally had to go.  Luckily the stars were in my favor and I got to go home early without having to serve on a jury.  Yay!!!!!!!!!

We also hired a nanny this past week.  It's Brian's cousin's daughter.  The kids LOVE her!!!!!!  She's only coming for two hours two times a week, but even that will be a total help.  Giving baths, helping with homework, running around out back with them, plus helping with other things around the house as well.  Thanks so much Heather!  We love you!

The Happenings In the Kitchen
This week the girls and I went with Brian to his work family retreat in Monterey, CA.  The weather was perfect and we had lots of fun!  We hung out at the Monterey Bay Aquarium mostly since we're season pass holders, but we also walked up and down Cannery Row, played on the beach (what little beach there is), had a great lunch, ate some ice cream (yum), and had an awesome dinner at The Sardine Factory.  No we didn't eat any sardines, but they did have little chocolates in the shape of sardines.

This egg isn't ready to hatch yet.

The Chefs
Belle and Adam are still in full swing of getting ready for baby.  Belle's been working on the baby room lately and it's coming along great!  Since Adam still doesn't want to know the sex of the baby, they are doing a gender neutral theme.  Kind of a world traveler theme.  Very cute!  Belle has also been working on inducing lactation for when the baby comes.  I just found out this morning that she's already getting a few drops each time!!!!!  That's awesome being that she still has about 24 more weeks till the baby gets here!  You go Belle!  The parents are also both super excited about the baby moving now.  I'm really hoping that maybe by the time they get here in late February, that they might be able to feel the baby move from the outside.  I know it's probably not likely, but I am feeling the baby 2 weeks earlier than normal, so maybe they'll be able to feel the baby a few weeks earlier than normal too.  That would be awesome!

As for looking ahead, Belle has already booked flights for their next trip out here in February, and we're booking a few "fun" scans as well.  Our first one is coming up soon to confirm the gender!!!!  We can't wait!  Another peek at baby Stitch.  We're also trying to plan a spring trip and some birthing classes while she's here.  Lots of fun stuff ahead!

Coming Soon !!!
