Surro Files - Would You Like A Side Of Sauce With Your Fries?

This week has been a slow week for me on the surrogacy front, but that doesn't mean things aren't moving forward.  The intended mother, Belle, is so awesome at keeping me in the loop of what's going on.  It's crazy to hear her stories and know just how much really goes into creating this very special little gift.  As I told you last week, there were some findings in the egg donors blood results that caused some concern.  Although the chances were slim, they were told that if the sperm donor also carried the same gene that the egg donor carried then their child could be born deaf.  It's amazing what they can test for these days!  Well to error on the side of caution, Belle and Adam decided to select a new sperm donor.  Can you believe that the database had over 400 to choose from?!?!  I think my head would spin with such a decision as that.  So many choices and you want to make sure that you pick the perfect one.  After all, selecting your donor(s) is one of the biggest decisions in surrogacy.  This selection will define who your little baby will be... or at least a piece of them.  How do you choose???  Looks?  Health?  Career? Personality?  They finally decided on a donor that had a great healthy history and had the same talent for art as the intended father, Adam.  I had to laugh when she told me she placed her order today.  She and the egg donor had also been joking that this process is almost like ordering a side of sauce with your meal.  Haha!  As serious and life defining as this moment is, sometimes you just have to laugh.  With this news, it looks like the IVF process might be able to start this week!!!  So exciting!

So what have I been doing this past week?  Well, our whole family is sick.  Bla!  It started with Reagan, moved to Riley, then to my mother in-law, then my father in-law, and now me!  Linc had it somewhere in there too, but it's hard to gauge when he got it because he can't tell me.  I'm glad I'm getting sick now though.  Our big vacation is less than two weeks away and I want to be well for that!  Then after that is's go time for the surrogacy!  No time for sickness then.  In addition both our girls started classes this week.  Riley started gymnastics and Reagan started swimming.  While Riley got a bit intimidated by the whole process, Reagan did awesome and passed on to the next level already!  I know Riley will do great this week though.  It was just first class jitters.  Can't wait till tomorrow to see how she does!

If you haven't already, make sure you check out Belle's Surrogacy Blog.  She recently added a post talking about how we met, "How I Met Your Surrogate Mother".
