Mother-ease - One Size Cotton Terry Fitted Diaper Review

Mother-ease one size cotton terry fitted cloth diaper
If you've been following my September Fitted Diaper Event and all the reviews then you've probably noticed that almost all of the fitted diapers I'm testing are on the higher end price range, made by work at home moms (WAHM), and have decorative exterior prints.  Well, I wanted to add a couple economical and readily available diapers as well.  That's where the Mother-ease One-Size Cotton Terry Fitted Diaper comes into play.  These diapers are easy to obtain, have a price that won't break the budget, and are great for those moms that love a simple clean look without a lot of fuss.  Now I'm usually all about color and fun prints, but some days I just love the look of a natural looking diaper.  It almost makes me feel like I'm on Little House On the Prairie for some reason.

Diaper Features:

Sizing:  This is a one size diaper fitting babies from 8-35 lbs utilizing a fold down rise and a cross-over snap.

Closure: Snaps (2 on each wing) with a cross-over snap and fold down rise snaps.

Exterior: I used the Unbleached Stretchy Cotton Terry.  You can also get these in white cotton terry, various colors of cotton terry, bamboo terry, organic cotton terry, or stay dry stretchy cotton terry.

Interior Lining: Unbleached stretchy cotton terry.

Hidden Layers:  4 Layers of unbleached stretchy cotton terry.

Soaker:  The soaker is fully sewn into the diaper but an optional 3 layer snap in liner can be purchased in unbleached cotton, white cotton, organic cotton, bamboo, or stay dry.  The optional liner snaps in when the diaper is on the largest setting, but lays in when on the small or medium setting.

Manufactured:  Canada

Average Retail Price: $11.95

Performance Review:

Ease Of Use: ♥♥♥♥ - These diapers are pretty easy to use.  There are only two snaps on each wing and folding the rise over for adjustments is pretty easy as well.  The only part that seems a bit off is when you cross the wings over.  The snaps are so close that you kind of have to bend the tab to get it to work.

Adjustability & Fit: ♥♥♥♥♥ - The fit of these diapers is very trim since there really isn't much bulk to the diaper.  They are a bit wide between the legs, but because they're so thin it doesn't really create a lot of bulk between the legs.  As far as adjustability, I find that this diaper fits better on an older baby than a newborn, but I did try this diaper on my newborn model and it worked ok.  The fact that this diaper is thin really helps with the one size factor.

Leak Protection: ♥♥♥♥♥ - These diapers are pretty thin so I would only use them during the day unless you're going to add an extra soaker to them.  I would also wear a cover over it during the day.  Kam, our tester baby #2 only lasted 10 min in this diaper.

Wash Routine: ♥♥♥♥♥ - These diapers are super easy as far as wash routine.  You don't have to worry about snaps in the wash or dryer and there is no additional soaker to look for when putting your diapers away (unless you buy an additional soaker which I would recommend).  If you get the white diapers then you also don't have to worry about fading.  These diapers also dry very fast (about 75min for me).

Bang For The Buck: ♥♥♥♥ - At just over $11 these are a great price!  I do wish they came with the additional soaker though.  That would make them a better deal in my eyes.  I actually would be willing to pay more for the additional soaker.  I just think it should come with one.  Since they're a one-size diaper, you won't have to worry about sizing up either.

Quality & Durability: ♥♥♥♥ - The quality and durability seems very good on this diaper.  It's not quite as soft as the Bummis Stretch Bamboozle or the Sustainablebabyish, but it's still pretty soft.  I also like the cotton binding.  It keeps the edges looking very nice and clean as opposed to serging the edges.

The Look: ♥♥♥♥♥ - This is a basic no frills fitted diaper.  You can get it in some fun solid colors or the basic white.  If I was to get these again, I would get them in a fun color.  I'm all about color.  I do like the clean lined look with the way the whole diaper is bound on the edges, but I guess I'm just looking for a little something extra in my fitteds.

In Conclusion:
I would recommend these diapers to someone that is a light to average wetter that is wearing a cover or a doubler if you are having your baby go coverless.  They are a great price, so if you just want something simple and trim then I say go for it!  They do feel pretty soft and I bet babies would love the soft terry feel on their bum.

  1. These are the diaper that we have the most in our stash. We have inserts for all od them. They snap in and stay put in the wash for the most part. Hubby loves them and we use them on our newborn, too. Easy, Peasy and inexpensive. I love colour too, but this is what we could afford without doing prefolds or flats.

    1. I bet they work great with the inserts. I should order one to test out in it.

  3. For the life of me, I can't get a decent fit on my 1 year old. He has a fairly short rise I guess, but when I fold the front over there aren't enough snaps available for his moderate waist. Anyone else have the same issue?

    1. I agree. My guy is a chunk so I don't have this problem, but I could totally see a skinny baby having this problem. There aren't a lot of snaps.

  4. These are my overnight diapers for my heavy wetting 2 year old. I use the snap-in soaker and lay another booster in under that, and it lasts 11-12 hours. Love them!

    1. I wish I'd had the snap in soaker to test out. I bet it would have been a lot better.

  5. I'm glad you wrote this review, I've been curious about Mother-ease since I found out they basically ruled the cloth diapering market in the 90s!

  6. I have a couple of these in my stash and I only use them with the boosters. It actually seems kind of silly to me that they even sell them without the booster since they really need that extra material to make them absorbent enough. They do work well with the booster in though. Also, I never liked them on really young babies either, too wide in the crotch to properly fit a newborn. Now that my son is 15 months old they fit great though.

  9. I love my mother ease! I bought several used at a great price, but was so convinced that I would like pockets better that I didn't try them for a couple of months. When I did finally try them I was sold. I put a fst as a doubler at night and they last all night. I haven't had one leak--the covers are awesome! They are ao much easier to care for, in my opinion, than pockets or ai1's. I would definitely recommend them. They aren't fancy, but they work amazingly well at containing everything.

  10. I love my mother ease! I bought several used for a great price, but had was initially so convinced that pockets were for me that I didn't use them. When I finally did, I fell in love. They are trim, but contain everything baby throws at them. I love them at night. I use one fst as a doubler at night. I have never had a leak or a blow out. They aren't fancy, but if you want the job done right they are the way to go. At least for us anyway.
